국문 초록

예이츠는 성실한 연구와 주변 철학자들과의 지적인 교류를 통하여 플라톤과 플로티누스에 대한 깊은 이해력을 키웠다. 특히 플로티누스의 철학 체계인 신플라톤주의가 그의 작품 전반에 걸쳐 널리 미치는 영향을 인식하는 것은 그의 작품을 이해하는데 필요한 귀중한 통찰력을 준다. 예이츠의 신비주의와 비교가 주목을 받아온 반면, 예이츠의 시에서 신플라톤주의는 상대적으로 충분히 탐구되지 않았다. 본 논문은 예이츠의 시, 특히, “The Tower”에 얽혀있는 이러한 주제들을 밝히고자 한다. 예이츠는 “The Tower”에서 풍부한 상징주의와 우화를 사용하여 이 시를 신플라톤주의를 탐구하기 위한 이상적인 장으로 만들었다. “The Tower”를 통하여, 영혼의 상승, 물질적 한계의 초월, 지상과 천상의 상호 작용이라는 신플라톤주의의 철학적 주제들이 탐구되어질 수 있다. 시 속의 탑은 신플라톤주의의 핵심인 더 높은 진리를 향한 영혼의 추구와 물리적 세계와 영적 세계 사이의 연결을 상징한다.

영문 초록

Yeats cultivated a profound comprehension of Plato and Plotinus through diligent study and intellectual exchange with the philosophers in his milieu. Recognizing the pervasive influence of Plotinus’s philosophical system, Neoplatonism offers valuable insights into the central themes explored throughout his oeuvre. While Yeats’s engagement with mysticism and esotericism has received attention, the Neoplatonic themes in Yeats’s poetry remain relatively unexplored. This study uncovers these themes especially interwoven in “The Tower.” Yeats uses rich symbolism and allegory in “The Tower,” making it an ideal canvas for Neoplatonic exploration. I delve into themes of soul ascent, transcending material limitations, and the interplay of the earthly and ethereal, identifying instances mirroring Neoplatonic philosophy. The Tower symbolizes the soul’s pursuit of higher truths and the connection between the physical and spiritual worlds, key to Neoplatonism.
