국문 초록

통일교육은 단순히 정치적 통합을 목표로 하는 것이 아니라, 통일 한국의 주역이 될 세대가 변화된 한반도와 국제적 환경에 적응하고 세계시민으로서의 역할을 수행할 수 있도록 돕는 교육적 접근이 필요하다. 본 연구는 통일교육의 학문적 성격을 재정립하기 위해 평화교육, 다문화교육, 민주시민교육, 세계시민교육과의 연계 요소를 확인하였다. 통일교육은 남북한 주민들이 통일 후 평화롭게 공존하고, 자유민주주의와 다양성, 그리 고 글로벌 시민의식을 함양하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다. 또한 통일교육의 교육 목적과 방법에 대한 이론적 기반으로 도덕철학과 도덕심리학을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 통일교 육이 강요나 일방적인 교육을 넘어서 대화형 통일교육으로 발전할 수 있는 방안을 모색 한다. 결과적으로 통일교육이 평화적 갈등 해결, 문화적 다양성 존중, 비판적 민주시민 성 그리고 글로벌 시민의식 함양을 통해 국제 사회에서도 책임감 있는 세계시민으로 자 리 잡을 수 있도록 하는 역할을 담당할 수 있음을 제시했다.

영문 초록

Reunification education should not merely pursue political integration but should take an educational approach that equips future generations, who will lead a reunified Korea, to adapt to the changing dynamics of the Korean Peninsula and the international environment, while fulfilling their roles as global citizens. This study aims to redefine the academic characteristics of reunification education by examining its connections with peace education, multicultural education, democratic citizenship education, and global citizenship education. Reunification education plays a pivotal role in enabling peaceful coexistence between residents of North and South Korea post- reunification, while fostering democracy, diversity, and global citizenship. Moreover, the study proposes moral philosophy as the theoretical foundation of reunification education and moral psychology as its educational methodology. In doing so, it seeks to explore strategies for transitioning reunification education from coercive or unilateral instruction to a more dialogical form of education. Ultimately, the study argues that reunification education can contribute to nurturing responsible global citizens within the international community by promoting peaceful conflict resolution, respect for cultural diversity, critical democratic citizenship, and the cultivation of global consciousness.
