국문 초록

이 연구에서는 공간과 장소, 기억의 관련성을 염두에 두며, <한중록>에 나타난 궁궐 공간의 인식과 장소감을 살폈다. <한중록>은 혜경궁 홍씨의 출생부터 입궁 이후의 삶에 대한 회고, 임오화변의 경과와 친정 식구들이 겪은 정치적 혐의에 대한 신원을 담고 있는 작품이다. 혜경궁 홍씨가 <한중록>에서 다루고 있는 중요한 사건은 세자빈 간택과 입궁, 남편 사도세자의 병증과 시부 영조와 남편 사도세자의 불화, 사도세자의 죽음으로, 세 사건은 각각 경춘전, 저승전, 휘령전이라는 장소와 긴밀히 연관되어 있다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 점에 주목하여 세 장소에 대한 혜경궁 홍씨의 인식과 장소감을 살폈다. 혜경궁 홍씨에게 경춘전은 입궁 이후 왕실의 환대를 경험하고 안도감을 느낄 수 있는 장소로 인식된다. 그리고 사도세자의 처소였던 저승전은 사도세자의 광증을 불러일으킨 화근으로서, 불안감을 야기시키는 장소로 지각된다. 한편, 휘령전은 사도세자가 영조의 명에 따라 뒤주에 갇혀 삶을 마감한 곳으로, 혜경궁 홍씨에게 이곳은 위압과 비애감을 불러일으키는 장소로 인식된다. 휘령전 안으로 들어갈 수 없었던 혜경궁 홍씨는 문과 담을 통해 들려오는 시부의 호령과 남편의 목소리를 통해 임오화변 당시 휘령전을 둘러싸고 있던 위압적 분위기를 세세히 전달한다. 혜경궁 홍씨의 세 장소에 대한 인식과 장소감은 아들 정조에게 공유되며 부분적으로 변형, 전환된다. 혜경궁 홍씨에게 왕실의 환대를 경험하며, 안도감을 안겨주었던 경춘전은 정조에게 부모님을 추모하고 동시에 자신의 탄생을 기념하는 장소로, 그리고 혜경궁 홍씨에게 사도세자의 기행을 불러일으키는 불안의 처소로 인식되었던 저승전은 정조에게 아버지에 대한 부정적 기억을 지우고 옛 왕조를 잇는 역사적 장소로 변주된다. 한편 혜경궁 홍씨에게 남편의 비극적 죽음을 상기시키는 위압, 비애의 장소로 기억되었던 휘령전은 정조에게 아버지 사도세자와 할아버지 영조의 혼령이 공존하는 상징적인 장소로 전환된다.

영문 초록

The spatial perception and sense of pace in “Hanjungrok” were examined, considering the relationship between space, place, and memory. “HanJoongrok” contains a retrospective of Hyegyeonggung Hong's life from birth to the end of her entry into the palace, the progress of the Imohwabyeon(壬午禍變),, and the identity of the political allegations suffered by her family members. Among them, the events that made a big difference in Hyegyeonggung Hong's life were selected and entered as a crown prince, her husband's illness, the discord between her father-in-law Yeongjo and her husband, and the death of Crown Prince Sado. The three cases take place at the places of Gyeongchunjeon, Jeoseungjeon, and Hwiryeongjeon, respectively. Hyegyeonggung Hong writes about the events and characters he has experienced, remembering and recording the direct and indirect experiences in three places in detail along with his feelings at the time. Accordingly, this study examined Hyegyeonggung Hong's perception and sense of place in each space, focusing on the three places. Gyeongchunjeon is an experience space where you can experience hospitality and feel relief after entering the palace. Jeoseungjeon, which was the residence of Crown Prince Sado, is the root of his madness and a space recognized intuitively with causes anxiety. While Gyeongchunjeon is based on Hyegyeonggung Hong's direct experience, Jeoseungjeon is based on previous events or rumors. On the other hand, Hwiryeongjeon is a place where Crown Prince Sado ended his life trapped in dwiju(wooden rice chest) under the order of King Yeongjo, and Hyegyeonggung Hong does not directly witness or experience the Imohwabyeon, but recognizes the space based on imagination based on the command of his father-in-law, the voice of his husband, and the daunting atmosphere that comes over the door and the wall. Jeongjo perceives the perception of these three spaces in a similar but different way. Gyeongchunjeon is recognized as a place to commemorate the parents and their birth, the Jeoseungjeon is a place to erase negative memories of their father and remind them of the old dynasty, and the Whiryeongjeon is transformed into a symbolic place where the spirits of their father, Crown Prince Sado, and grandfather, King Yeongjo, go beyond coercion and sorrow. In this respect, “Hanjungrok” can be said to be a place of cultural memory where the memories of Hyegyeonggung Hong and the palace spaces such as Gyeongchunjeon, Jeoseungjeon, and Hwiryeongjeon are taught.
