국문 초록
The purpose of this study is to closely examine the tea pot, which is the core of Korean tea culture, through the historical and cultural background of ceramic history and tea, and to revive its true meaning and value. In particular, efforts to re-examine the side-handled tea pot that originated from ancient Onggi culture are of great importance. This can provide an opportunity to look at the traditional tea utensils of Korean tea ceremony from a new perspective and contribute to establishing the uniqueness of Korean tea culture.
As interest in traditional culture and health increases, the importance of tea is gradually emerging, and accordingly, the number of people who enjoy tea is gradually increasing. In the modern society that values health and healing, tea has become more than just a beverage.
Tea and ceramics have an inseparable relationship. Tea exerts its true spiritual value only when it is contained in tea utensils, and tea utensils can only have meaning when they contain tea. There is a Chinese proverb that says, “Water is the mother of tea, and tea kettle is the father of tea.” This is an expression that emphasizes the role of the teapot, an important tool for making and brewing tea. Tea kettles play an important role in bringing out the taste and aroma of tea, and their choice is directly related to the quality of tea. A teapot is a device for brewing tea and plays a role in bringing out the true taste of tea, and the shape, material, and size of the teapot act as important factors that influence the way tea is drank and its experience.
During the Japanese occupation, our own tea culture and traditional ceramics were hit hard. Tea was an important part of the common people's culture, but gradually declined amid Japan's discriminatory policies and the spread of Westernized culture. The culture of tea and ceramics was cut off, and the roots of traditional Korean ceramics and tea culture weakened as Japanese-inspired Japanese style pottery became popular.
The tradition of tea and ceramics in the modern world is being re-examined by many potters and tea people. Efforts are being made to continue the tradition, and tea can be an important means of improving our quality of life and improving our mental and physical health beyond simply serving as a beverage. The harmonious combination of tea and ceramics still holds important value in modern society as a traditional way of seeking mental relaxation and enlightenment beyond material consumption.
