국문 초록

Traditional Korean cabinets, called 'Takja-jang', are furniture used to store office supplies and ornaments and have been evaluated as one of Korea's artistic heritage with original formative beauty and functionality. It expresses Koreans' life and aesthetic sense through simple and elaborate design, and is an important factor representing the social values and aesthetic consciousness of the time. However, as modern residential environments and living patterns have changed, the functions and forms of traditional cabinets have tended to be inconsistent with today's reality. In recent years, it is true that the phenomenon of preferring furniture design that emphasizes practicality and simplicity and reinterprets traditional formal beauty in a modern way is remarkable. In this situation, designing traditional cabinets in consideration of modern aesthetics and functionality will be an important task to create a design language that shares tradition and modernity. In this study, a new design paradigm is proposed by analyzing the morphological, formative, and structural characteristics of traditional Korean cabinets and reinterpreting them as furniture suitable for the modern residential environment. Through this, we tried to explore the possibility of furniture design where tradition and innovation coexist by re-examining the aesthetic value of traditional furniture and exploring design directions that meet modern needs. The design development process was carried out according to the design direction set through research and analysis to confirm the design and produce a prototype.
