스마트 기저귀와 인지증(치매) 돌봄: 정동적 기술적 접촉의 연결 (불)가능성

국문 초록

코로나19 팬데믹으로 24시간 비대면 안심 돌봄을 제공할 수 있는 상황을 경험하면서 다양한 형태의 스마트 돌봄이 주목받았다. 하지만 최소한의 신체적 접촉 없이 돌봄이 불가능한데 과연 디지털 기술과 인공지능, 로봇 등이 인간을 대신할 수 있을까 하는 불안과 의구심도 공존했다. 이 연구는 한 인지증 전문 요양원을 중심으로 스마트 기저귀가 어떻게 이해되고 실행되는지를 기술하고 분석한다. 특히 대면 접촉 기반 돌봄이 스마트 기술을 탑재한 기술적 접촉으로 변하는 것에 대한 부정적인 분위기가 생성되고 확산되는 과정을 포스트휴먼 돌봄의 ‘정동적 기술적 접촉’의 관점에서 살펴본다. 이를 통해 신체적 사건으로서의 접촉은 단순한 생리적·감각적·감정적 차원뿐만 아니라 사회적·정치적·경제적·문화적·윤리적 차원의 다층적이며 역동적인 정동적 얽힘의 산물임을 밝힌다. 또한 이것이 신기술의 실패가 아니라 인간과 비인간이 분리되지 않고, 환원 불가능한 상호 얽힘이라는 포스트휴먼 돌봄을 통해 재구성될 수 있음을 제시한다. 이제는 인간중심적 돌봄에서 인간너머 돌봄의 가능성을 새롭게 상상하는 것과 함께 인간-기계-기술-제도-환경 결합의 ‘불완전함’을 직시해야 함을 강조한다. 이를 통해 이 연구는 아직 도래하지 않은 디지털 돌봄의 완벽함을 상상하는 것도 중요하지만 여기-지금 ‘불편함’과 함께 살기 위해 보이지 않게 분투하는 돌봄노동자의 노동의 인정에서부터 출발할 것을 제안한다.

영문 초록

The COVID-19 pandemic has put a spotlight on a range of digital care that can provide round-the-clock, non-face-to-face care. At the same time, there are anxieties and doubts about whether smart technologies and robots equipped with artificial intelligence can replace humans in situations where care is impossible without at least minimal hu man touch. This study describes and analyzes the current status of smart diapers and their implementation, focusing on care homes for people with dementia. In particular, the process of generating and spreading negativity regarding the transformation of face-to-face contact-based care into care based around smart technology is examined from the perspective of ‘affective technotouch’. It reveals that touch as a physical event is the product of a multilayered and dynamic affective entanglement of not only physiological, sensory, and emotional dimensions, but also social, political, economic, cultural, and ethical ones. At the same time, it suggests that this opposition does not mean the failure of new technologies, but that they can be reconfigured through posthuman care, where the human and non-human are not separated, but irreducibly intertwined. However, this study proposes moving past anthropocentric care and reimagines the pos sibilities of care beyond the need for humans while facing the ‘imperfections’ of the hu man-machine-technology-institutional-environmental nexus. Furthermore, rather than chas ing perfection that may not be attainable, this study states the need to recognize the care worker’s art of care and the invisible struggle of living with the ‘discomfort’ of digital care here and now.
