국문 초록

이 글은 도덕에 대한 하나의 문화 비판으로서, ‘이론적 차원’에서 도덕에 대한 메타적 비판을 시도하는 동시에 ‘현실적 차원’에서 대안적 삶의 자세(태도)를 모색해본다. ‘부정의 윤리학’을 모토로 하는 이 글은 세 사람의 학자, 즉 도덕 비판의 대가로서 니체(Nietzsche), 루만(Luhmann) 그리고 묄러(Moeller)의 이론을 차례로 검토한다. 도덕 비판가로서 니체와 루만의 명성은 압도적이다. 니체의 도덕 비판은 그 어디에 비길데가 없을 만큼 강력하고 전복적이다. ‘노예 도덕’을 통해 도덕의 권력 의지를 폭로한 그의 이론은 도덕 비판의 전범(典範)이라고 할 수 있다. 사회학자 루만은 그 특유의 정밀한 체계론적 지도를 가지고 기능적으로 분화된 현대사회를 조감하는데, 이 과정에서 하나의 소통 유형으로서 도덕과 ‘비판적으로’ 만난다. 그는 ‘존중/무시’의 도덕 코드가 확산되면서 수많은 인간을 전인격적으로 재단하게 되고 이것이 숱한 갈등의 불씨가 된다고 도덕을 비판한다. 묄러는 도덕에 초연한 ‘비도덕적(amoral)’ 입장과 여기에 근거한 이른바 ‘도덕적 백치론(the moral fool)’을 주창한다. 필자는 이상 학자들의 도덕비판을 체계적으로 검토한 후 이들을 종합하여 나름대로의 대안을 제시한다.

영문 초록

As a cultural critique for morality, this article attempts a meta-criticism for morality from the ‘theoretical level’ and at the same time seeks an alternative attitude of life from the ‘realistic level’. This article, with the motto of ‘negative ethics’, examines in turn the theories of Nietzsche, Luhmann, and Moeller as master of critics for morality. Nietzsche and Luhmann’s reputation as critics for morality is overwhelming. Nietzsche’s criticism is unparalleled in strength and subversive. His theory that exposed ‘the will to power’ of morality through ‘slavery morality’ can be said to be a classical model of critique for morality. Sociologist Luhmann has his unique precise systematic guidance and bird’s eye view of the functionally differentiated modern society, and in this process, he ‘critically’ meets morality. He criticizes morality that as the moral code of ‘respect/ignorance’ spreads, many humans are measured in a holistic way, which becomes the spark for many conflicts. Moeller advocates an ‘amoral’ position that is detached from morality and the so-called ‘moral fool’ based on it. After systematically reviewing these scholars’ criticism, I synthesize them and suggest my own alternatives.
