20대 남성의 신경성 폭식 경험 및 극복의 의미 탐색을 위한 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 20대 남성을 대상으로 신경성 폭식증의 시작에서 극복에 이르는 과정에 대한 탐색을 통해 신경성 폭식을 경험하고 극복한 개인에 대한 이해 및 재발 방지, 상담 및 교육적 개입에의 기초자료를 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 과거 신경성 폭식증을 경험하고 현재는 극복한 20대 남성 3명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 실시하였다. 수집된 자료는 Cresswell(2013)의 사례연구 방법을 토대로 분석되었다. 본 연구 결과, 4개의 차원, 17개의 공통 주제, 40개의 개별 주제가 도출되었다. 특히, 연구 참여자들의 신경성 폭식증 유발 주요 요인에는 부모와의 불안정한 애착, 이상적 남성 체형을 토대로 한 평가와 지적, 학업 스트레스, 정서 조절 곤란으로 나타났다. 신경성 폭식 극복과 관련된 주요 요인으로는 생활 환경적 변화, 사회적 지지, 건강 악화 염려, 기존 폭식 행동의 주 스트레스 경감, 신체 외형 변화로 나타났다. 끝으로 연구 결과를 토대로 시사점 및 제한점을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore the process of bulimia nervosa from onset to recovery among men in their twenties to provide a better understanding of individuals who have experienced and recovered from bulimia nervosa and to provide a basis for relapse prevention, counseling, and educational interventions. To accomplish this, in-depth interviews were conducted with three men in their 20s who had previously experienced and currently recovered from bulimia nervosa. The data collected were analyzed based on Cresswell's (2013) case study method. Four dimensions, 17 common themes, and 40 individual themes emerged from the study. In particular, the main triggers of bulimia nervosa for the participants were insecure attachment to parents, evaluation based on the ideal male body type, intellectual and academic stress, and emotional dysregulation. The main factors associated with overcoming bulimia nervosa were environmental changes, social support, fear of deteriorating health, reducing the primary stress of existing binge eating behaviors, and changes in body appearance. Finally, implications and limitations are presented based on the findings.
