백제 웅진기 ‘建邦之神’ 제사와 聖王代 유교식 天 관념

국문 초록

본고는 백제 웅진기의 ‘建邦之神’ 기록과 聖王代의 유교식 제사체계를 면밀히 검토하여 토착 天 관념과 유교식 天 관념 사이의 갈등에 대하여 살펴보았다. 먼저 웅진기 東城王 때의 祭天地 기록과 『日本書紀』의 ‘建邦之神’ 기록을 연결시켜 해석하여, 그 제사 대상은 天地神이면서 古朝鮮-馬韓 계통의 곰 신화 내지 단군신화와 관련될 수 있음을 언급하였다. 하지만 聖王 시기에는 유교식 제사체계를 확립하려는 노력에 따라 웅진·사비 지역 토착 天地神 관념에 변화를 꾀하여, 중국식 天과 五帝 및 山川 제사를 받아들여 이를 백제화시키려 하였다. 그러나 이러한 시도는 耆老로 표현된 웅진·사비 지역 귀족들의 天 관념과 갈등을 야기시켰고, 성왕의 管山城 전투 패전 원인으로까지 지목되면서 전쟁을 주도했던 태자 昌(威德王)을 압박하게 되었다. 본고는 그동안 ‘建邦之神’의 실체를 東明이나 仇台 등 始祖神으로 보았던 데에서 벗어나, 웅진기의 祭天地 기록과 연관시켜 이 지역 토착 天 관념과 신화로 해석하였고, 성왕 시기 백제 중흥을 위한 여러 개혁 노력과 관산성 전투 패배로 인한 좌절을 사상적 관점에서 재검토한 점에 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This paper analyzes the conflict between the ethnic and Confucius perspectives on Heaven(天), examining the record of ‘Kŏnbangjisin(建邦之神)’ in the Ungjin period of Baekje and Confucius style rituals during the reign of King Sŏng(聖王). First, the paper connected the records of the rituals for Heaven and Earth during the reign of King Tongsŏng in the Ungjin period to the record of ‘Kŏnbangjisin’ in Nihon Shoki(日本書紀), and interpreted that the subject of the ritual was a spirit of Heaven and Earth, which possibly had a relationship with the myth of bears or Tangun descended from the Old Chosŏn and Mahan(馬韓). Yet, during the reign of King Sŏng, there was an attempt to establish the system of Confucius style rituals. As a result, while Baekje sought for a change in the traditional perspective on the spirits of Heaven and Earth, it tried to import the Chinese style rituals for Heaven, Five Emperors, or mountains and rivers, and localize them into their own style. These attempts inevitably brought a conflict with the local ethnic aristocrats’ ideas of Heaven, which was expressed as Kiro(耆老); this conflict even pressured the crown prince and the leader of the war, Ch’ang(later King Widŏk), when it became the reason of the battle’s defeat. This paper tried to overcome the previous perspectives that ‘Kŏnbangjisin’ was a spirit of the founder of a state such as Tongmyŏng(東明) or Kut’ae(仇台), and analyzed it as a local ethnic concept and myth of Heaven in this area, connecting them to the record of ritual for Heaven and Earth in the Ungjin period. Additionally, the paper has a significance to review Baekje’s various attempts to reform for resurgence during the reign of King Sŏng, and discouragement after the defeat in the battle of Kwansan Castle under the ideological perspective.
