국문 초록
Global airlines are focusing their human resource management strategies on diversity management strategies and hiring cabin crew from different ethnicities as a result of globalization. While this has a positive effect on competitiveness as it increases creativity and productivity, it has also led to negative side effects such as racism due to ignoring or discriminating against differences in diversity. There are, however, no studies in the field of tourism about racism in Korea, as the research that has been conducted so far has concentrated on education and social work. Therefore, this study conceptualizes contemporary racism on global airlines and develops a quantitative measure of it. As part of an online survey, the newly developed items were administered to 245 current and former Asian female flight attendants from the Middle East, Europe, and Asia of various ethnicities. Several factor analyses have been conducted to ensure validity and reliability; a total of 24 items, including six items, have been selected for the scale. In this study, a research hypothesis and model were developed to test the criterion validity and law validity of the newly constructed scale. The dependent variables were depression, job stress, mental health, and perceived insider status, which are all gold standard variables in modern racism. Correlation analysis showed that all six factors were significantly related to depression, job stress, and mental health.
