국문 초록

본 연구는 노인의 차별경험이 삶의 의미에 영향을 미치는 경로에서 자아존중감과 자율성의 순차적 매개효과를 검증하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 서울 2곳과 경기도 1곳의 노인복지관을 이용하는 65세 이상의 노인 중 성별과 75세 연령기준 비율을 고려하여 연구참여자를 모집하였다. 2018년 5월부터 7월까지 대면 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 최종적으로 200명의 자료를 분석에 활용하였다. 분석 방법으로는 SPSS PROCESS macro 프로그램을 활용하여 매개변수가 2개인 다중매개모형 검증을 통해 이중매개효과를 확인하였으며, 부트스트랩을 활용하여 매개효과의 유의성을 검증하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 차별경험은 자아존중감에, 자아존중감은 자율성에 각각 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으나, 노인의 차별경험이 자율성과 삶의 의미에 미치는 직접효과는 유의하지 않았다. 둘째, 노인의 차별경험과 삶의 의미의 관계에서 자아존중감과 자율성을 순차적으로 경유하여 삶의 의미에 이르는 경로만이 유의한 것으로 나타나 순차적 매개효과가 확인되었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 차별을 경험한 노인의 삶의 의미증진을 위한 정책적, 실천적 함의를 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The aim of this study is to investigate the sequential mediating effects of self-esteem and autonomy in the pathway through which experiences of discrimination impact the meaning in life among older adults. To accomplish this, among the elderly aged 65 or older who use two senior welfare centers in Seoul and one in Gyeonggi-do, the study subjects were recruited by considering the ratio based on gender and 75 years of age. A face-to-face survey was conducted from May to July 2018. Data from 200 participants were ultimately analyzed. The SPSS PROCESS macro program was employed as the analytical tool to validate the dual mediation effect through a multi-mediator model with two parameters, and the significance of the mediation effect was confirmed using bootstrapping. The primary findings of this study are as follows: First, it was demonstrated that experiences of discrimination among older adults significantly influenced their self-esteem. Additionally, self-esteem exhibited a substantial effect on autonomy. However, the direct effect of experiences of discrimination on autonomy and the meaning in life among older adults was not found to be statistically significant. Second, in the relationship between experiences of discrimination and the meaning in life among older adults, only the pathway that traversed through self-esteem and autonomy sequentially was identified as significant, thereby confirming the presence of a sequential mediating effect. Based on these results, recommendations were provided in terms of social welfare policies and practical interventions aimed at enhancing the meaning in life for older adults who have encountered experiences of discrimination.
