1인가구 연구의 새로운 패러다임 찾기

국문 초록

한국의 1인가구에 대한 기존 연구들은 주로 저출산 고령화와 인구위기 담론 속에서 1인가구 증가를 고찰하며, 1인가구 당사자 특성이나 다인가구와의 비교분석을 통해 혼자 사는 사람들의 취약성과 정책 대응의 필요성을 강조하는 경향이 나타난다. 이처럼 1인가구의 취약성을 중점 분석하는 가운데 간과되어 온 ’동전의 다른 한 면‘, 즉 전지구적ㆍ보편적ㆍ장기지속적 1인가구 확대 현상을 논의하는 폭넓은 이론적 패러다임으로 시야를 확장하는 것이 이 연구의 목적이다. 이를 위해 2차 인구전환, 개인화 명제, 이동성과 이행에 대한 논의들을 검토하고, 문헌연구를 통해 특히 근로연령 1인가구의 다양성과 이동성을 드러낼 수 있는 세 가지분석 방향과 주요 쟁점들을 논의하였다. 첫째, 1인가구 증가 추세의 국가별 비교분석과 한국사례의 유형화 및 특징에 대한 질문, 둘째 젠더 구조가 1인가구의 구성이나 교육수준에 따른분포에 미치는 영향 등 중범위 수준의 젠더 분석, 셋째 1인가구의 생애과정과 이행 경험에대한 질적 분석과 그 이론적 함의를 살펴보았다. 1인가구에 대한 다양한 시각과 논의들은 가족을 바라보는 사회학적 상상력에 새로운 질문을 제기하며, 고정된 가족개념보다는 가족실행의 차원에서 1인가구의 다양한 실천과 생애과정의 경로들을 분석하는 연구가 확대될 필요가있다.

영문 초록

As the number of on-person-household(OPHs) increases rapidly in Korea, various studies on this have expanded. Previous studies tend to focused on macro-level research on statistic trends of OPHs, or on micro-level case analysis on daily experiences of OPHs. Lots of previous researches suggest a similar conclusion that highlights the vulnerability of people living alone and the need for policy response. However, the focus of this study is a broad theoretical review to reflect on the ‘other side of the coin’, that is, the global, universal, and long-term expansion of OPHs, which has been overlooked in Korea due to the ‘latent familism’ bias. In this study, major theoretical paradigms such as the second demographic transition, individualization these, and recent discussions on mobility and life-course transition were reviewed. Based on a expanded theoretical perspective, mid-range analysis that can appropriately reveal the diversity and mobility of working-age OPHS was explored in three directions. First, comparative analysis of the increase in OPHs and the distinctive patterns of the Korean case; second, mid-range gender analysis such as the impact of gender structure on the composition of single-person households or distribution according to education level; third, qualitative analysis that can categorize the life course and transition experiences of households in the context of institutional change. Various perspectives and discussions on OPHs raise challenging questions in the sociological imagination of families. Moving away from the concept of the family as a fixed thing, extended research is needed to analyze various practices and life course of OPHs in terms of family practice.
