국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 외국인직접투자가 고용에 미치는 영향을 실증 분석하는 것이다. 이에, 산업통상자원부의 ‘외국인투자통계’와 통계청의 ‘경제활동인구조사’ 등을 활용하여 2013년 1분기부터 2023년 1분기까지 국내로 유입된 외국인직접투자(도착 기준)가 국내 고용에 미친 영향을 유한시차모형(Finite Distributed Lags Model)을 통해 실증분석하였다. 그 결과, 지난 10여 년간 국내로 유입된 외국인직접투자는 국내 전체 고용 및 청년 고용에 통계적으로 유의미한 양(+)의 영향을 미친 것으로 나타났다. 한편, 외국인직접투자를 형태별(그린필드형/M&A형) 및 업종별(서비스업/제조업)로 구분하여 분석한 결과, 그린필드형 외국인직접투자는 국내 전체 고용과 청년 고용에, 서비스업 외국인직접투자는 서비스업 전체 고용에 통계적으로 유의미한 양(+)의 영향을 미쳤음을 알 수 있었다. 결과적으로, 이는 최근 양질의 일자리 감소, 청년층의 구직 포기 증가 등과 같은 국내 고용시장의 구조적 문제를 해결하는데 외국인직접투자가 기여할 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the impact of foreign direct investment on employment. Using the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's 'Foreign Investment Statistics' and the National Statistical Office's 'Economically Active Population Survey', the impact of foreign direct investment (based on arrival) flowing into Korea from the first quarter of 2013 to the first quarter of 2023 on domestic employment was empirically analyzed by using the Finite Distributed Lags Model. As a result, foreign direct investment that has flowed into Korea over the past 10 years has been shown to have a statistically significant positive impact on overall domestic employment and youth employment. Greenfield foreign direct investment has a statistically significant positive effect on overall domestic employment and youth employment, and service foreign direct investment has also positive effect on service industry’s employment. Consequently, this suggests that foreign direct investment can contribute to solving structural problems in the korean employment market, such as the recent decline in quality jobs and the increase in young people giving up looking for jobs.
