국문 초록

해방공간까지 한국 장로교회에는 여러 가지 형태의 신앙운동이 일어났는데, 1907년 평양대부흥운동과 1909년 백만인구령운동, 그리고 진흥운동이 대표적인 경우이다. 이중 진흥운동은 장로교 총회가 의욕적으로 추진한 부흥전도운동으로 1919년 말부터 두 단계로 나누어 전국적으로 추진되었다. 제1차 진흥운동은 1919년부터 1925년까지, 제2차 진흥운동은 1929년부터 1934년까지 실시되었다. 본 연구는 3·1만세운동 이후 한국교회와 한국사회를 갱신하는데 중요한 역할을 담당한 진흥운동을 살펴본 것이다. 특히 1920년대 대구·경북지역 교회에서 가장 활발하게 전개된 진흥운동을 중심으로 연구한 것은 대구·경북지역에서 전개된 진흥운동이 전국적으로 전개된 장로교 진흥운동의 성격을 해명하는 작업의 일환이기 때문이다. 대구·경북지역의 교회는 장로교 총회가 추진한 진흥운동 방침에 따라 의욕적으로 추진하였다. 이 지역은 3·1만세운동으로 교역자들이 체포·투옥되어 교세(敎勢)가 심각한 영향을 입을 정도로 지도력의 공백 상태에 있었으며, 수해와 재해, 그리고 일제의 식민지 수탈정책으로 교회의 재정적인 타격이 심한 상황이었다. 대구·경북지역의 교회는 김익두 목사를 초청하여 진흥 부흥회를 실시하고, 특히 경북노회 소속 목사들이 전 교회적으로 진흥 부흥회를 추진하였다. 그 결과 진흥 부흥회가 열린 곳마다 성령의 은혜와 역사에 사로잡힌 교인들이 눈물을 흘리며 회개하고 새롭게 믿기로 결단하였으며, 모이는 집회마다 이적과 기사가 일어나 각색의 환자들이 고침을 받는 역사가 일어났다. 이들은 자발적으로 헌금을 하거나, 토지의 십일조를 드렸으며 심지어 불신자까지 헌금을 하여 예배당을 매입하고, 신축·개축·증축하였으며, 교회를 수리하였다. 또 종각을 세워 종을 달고, 강대상, 시계, 풍금, 난로 등을 설치하여 비로소 현대식 교회 형태를 갖추는 계기가 되었다.

영문 초록

Various forms of faith movements took place in the Korean Presbyterian Church up to the liberation era, including the Pyongyang Revival Movement in 1907, the Millions Saving Movement in 1909, and the Promotion Movement. Especially, the Promotion Movement was an evangelistic revival movement ardently promoted by the General Assembly of Presbyterian and was promoted nationwide in two stages from the end of 1919. from 1919 to 1925 and the second was from 1929 to 1934. This study examines the promotion movement that played an important role in renewing Korean churches and Korean society after the 3.1 Independent Movement. In particular, the focus was laid on the most active promotion movement in churches in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do in the 1920s because it was a part of explaining the nature of the Presbyterian Promotion Movement nationwide. Churches in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do actively participated in the promotion movement in accordance with the policy of the General Assembly of Presbyterian. Churches in those areas suffered leadership crisis due to imprisonment and arrest of leaders caused by the 3.1 Independent Movement. Moreover, the flood, disaster, and Japanese colonial exploitation damaged severally on finances of the churches. Churches in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do invited Pastor Kim Ik-du to hold a promotion revival conference. In particular, pastors of the Gyeongbuk Presbytery supported the promotion revival conference throughout the churches. As a result, wherever the promotion revival conference was held, members of churches were obsessed with the grace and works of the Holy Spirit, cried and decided to repent and believe anew. They gave a tithe of properties and offerings voluntarily, and even unbelievers gave offerins which caused to repair, expand, renovate, build, and buy church buildings. In addition, offerings caused to form a modern type of church which contains bell, pulpit, clock, organ, and a stove.
