국문 초록

본 논문은 네덜란드 신학자인 헤르만 바빙크의 은사와 직분의 관계를 고찰한다. 이를 위하여 그의 대표 저작인 『하나님의 큰 일』(Magnalia Dei)의 ‘성령의 은사’ 부분과 ‘봉사와 직분’을 설정하였다. 두 부분은 각각의 주제로 논의되지만 긴밀한 연관성을 지닌다. 바빙크가 이해한 은사의 실현은 직분과 봉사로 나타난다. 그는 은사는 직분을 전제하고 보완하는 것으로 바라보았다. 또한 신자들의 봉사 원리를 그리스도의 은사 주심으로 보았다. 나아가 은사는 교회 직분을 넘어 삶의 모든 영역을 섬길 수 있는 다양한 개념으로 이해했다. 이를 통해 은사의 성격을 직분에만 국한시키지 않음을 수정할 수 있을 것이다. 따라서 바빙크가 이해하는 성령의 은사를 두 가지 관점으로 살폈다. 하나는 기독론이며 다른 하나는 교회론이다. 기독론은 승천하신 그리스도의 사역에 정초하면서 성령 부어주심의 핵심적인 역할을 담당한다. 교회론은 사도들을 위한 좁은 의미의 성령 부어주심과 교회 탄생을 향한 넓은 의미의 성령의 은사로 구성된다. 이것과 연관되어 성령 은사의 목적은 교회의 건덕과 성도의 연합, 구원의 은덕들로 구체화 되는 것이 강조된다. 둘째, 바빙크의 은사 이해를 교회의 봉사, 직분과의 연관성을 가지고 살펴보았다. 모든 성도들의 봉사와 직분의 실현은 교회 세움과 하나님의 영광을 강조한다. 이런 이유에서 바빙크는 교회의 지속적인 확장과 열매 맺음의 원동력은 그리스도의 은사 주심으로 평가한다. 셋째 바빙크의 은사 이해를 평가하고 실천적 측면에서 제언한다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the relationship between gifts and offices in the Dutch theologian Herman Bavinck. To do so, it sets out the ‘Gifts of the Holy Spirit’ and ‘Service and Office’ sections of his seminal work, Magnalia Dei. The two sections are discussed separately but are closely related. The realization of gifts, as Bavinck understood them, is manifested in office and service. He viewed gifts as presupposing and complementing office, and the principle of service of believers as the gift of Christ. Furthermore, he understood gifts as various concepts that could serve all areas of life beyond church offices. Bavinck’s understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit is therefore examined from two perspectives. One is Christology and the other is ecclesiology. Christology plays a central role in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, focusing on the work of the ascended Christ. Ecclesiology involves the Holy Spirit’s outpouring for the apostles and the broader gifts leading to the church’s birth. In relation to this, it is emphasized that the purpose of the gift of the Holy Spirit is to be embodied in the edification of the church, the unity of the saints, and grace of salvation. Second, Bavinck’s understanding of gifts was examined in relation to the service and office of the church. The realization of the service and office of all the saints emphasizes the edification of the church and the glory of God. For this reason, Bavinck believes that the driving force behind the continued expansion and fruitfulness of the church is the gift of Christ. Third, Bavinck’s understanding of the gift is evaluated and suggestions are made from a practical aspect.
