서사 구조를 통해 본 <숙영낭자전> 판소리화의 의의

국문 초록

본고는 판소리화된 고전소설 <숙영낭자전>의 구조적 특징을 검토하고 그 의의를 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 판소리 <숙영낭자전>은 판소리 열두 마당에 포함되기도 했으나 전승 5가만큼 인기를 끌지 못한 것으로 평가받는다. 그 이유로는 과도한 축약과 비장미, 개연성 부족, 공감 가능한 서민 캐릭터의 부재 등이 지적되었다. 그러나 이러한 한계에도 불구하고 판소리 <숙영낭자전>은 소설의 서사 구조를 변형시켜 서사의 성격을 다채롭게 하거나, 결말의 변형을 통해 판소리라는 장르의 속성을 효과적으로 구현했다는 점에서 오늘날 주목할 만한 매체 전환의 사례라 할 수 있다. 원작에 충실해야 한다는 요건과 개작된 장르의 속성을 만족시켜야 한다는 요건 사이에서 판소리 <숙영낭자전>이 취한 노선이 완벽하다고는 할 수 없겠으나, 복합 언어 양식을 활용한 매체 전환이 활발히 이루어지는 오늘날 적극적으로 검토하고 참고할 만한 자료로서 가치가 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the structural features of pansori Sookyoungnangjajeon as an example of reformation and to reveal its significance. Pansori Sookyoungnangjajeon was included in the twelve pieces of pansori, but it is considered to have not been as popular as five pieces which had been handed down to the present. The reasons for this were pointed out by excessive contraction and tragic beauty, lack of probability, and absence of sympathetic character. However, despite these limitations, pansori Sookyoungnangjajeon is a remarkable example of reformation in that it transformed the narrative structure of a novel to diversify the character of the narrative, or effectively realized the genre of pansori through the transformation of the ending. Although the route taken by pansori Sookyoungnangjajeon cannot be said to be perfect between the requirement to be faithful to the original and the properties of the revised genre, it is valuable as a reference in present day that reformation using multimodal texts are actively carried out.
