국문 초록

지속가능발전 연구가 환경, 경제, 사회 축을 중심으로 이루어지면서, 다양한 Three Pillar Model이 제시되었다. 지속가능발전의 개념화와 목표 달성을 위해 Three Pillar Model은 유용한 도구가 되어 왔다. Three Pillar Model은 지속가능발전 연구의 주류 패러다임이지만, 모형의 형태나 구성 방식에 관한 체계적인 연구는 이루어지지 않았다. 이 글에서는 주요 선행연구에서 제시한 Three Pillar Model의 구성 내용을 살펴보고, 축 간 통합과 모형의 발전을 위한 연구과제를 도출해 보았다. 모형의 보완을 위해 사상적 입장에 따른 모형의 내용변화, 기본 축과 지표의 구성, 축 간 관계의 특성 탐구, 시간 흐름의 반영에 관한 후속 연구가 필요함을 밝혔다. 이 연구의 기여는 선행연구에서 부족했던 Three Pillar Model의 내용을 비교하고 모형의 발전을 위한 주요 연구과제를 제시한 것이다. 또한 이 글은 다양한 분야의 지속가능발전 연구에서 타당성과 적실성이 높은 Three Pillar Model 구성에 이바지할 것이다.

영문 초록

As sustainable development research has centered on the environmental, economic, and social pillars, various Three Pillar Models have been proposed. The Three Pillar Model has been a useful tool for conceptualizing sustainable development and achieving its goals. Although the Three Pillar Model is a mainstream paradigm in sustainable development, there has been no systematic study on the form of the model or how it is organized. This article examines the contents of the Three Pillar Model and identifies research issues for the integration of the pillars and the development of the model. To improve the model, it was found that further research is needed on changing the content of the model according to the ideological position, organizing the basic pillars and indicators, exploring the nature of the relationship between the pillars, and reflecting the passage of time. The contribution of this study is to compare the contents of the Three Pillar Model, which was lacking in previous studies, and to suggest major research issues for integration between the axes. This article will also contribute to the construction of the Three Pillar Model with high validity and relevance in sustainable development research.
