경영자 능력이 보유기간초과수익률에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

현대 사회에서 최고경영자의 중요성은 점점 강조되고 있다. 기업의 성패가 경영자의 능력에 상당한 부분 영향받는다는 데에 큰 이견이 없을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 경영자 능력을 측정하기 위하여 Demerjian et al.(2012)이 제시한 DEA 방법론을 사용하였다. 본 연구에서는 투자자의 관점에서 장단기 기업성과를 관찰하고자 하였다. 투자자 입장에서 우수한 경영자를 선임하는 주된 이유는 해당 기업의 주가 상승에 있을 것이다. 중기적 관점에서는 회계이익 보다 주가의 관점이 더 직접적 경영자 의사결정의 결과라 판단하였다. 분석결과 코스피 시장에서 경영자 능력이 높은 경우 향후 6개월, 12개월, 18개월, 24개월, 30개월 및 36개월까지 유의미한 누적초과수익률이 확인되었다. 코스닥 시장에서는 비교적 단기인 6개월과 12개월에서만 유의한 결과를 확인하였다. 결국 코스피, 코스닥 시장에서 모두 경영자 능력이 주가수익률에 긍정적 영향을 미친다는 점을 보였다. 본 연구는 경영자 능력이 회계이익이 아닌 실제 주가수익률에 영향을 미치는지 관측하였다는 데에 그 기여점이 있다고 하겠다.

영문 초록

The importance of top executives in modern society is increasingly emphasized. There is little disagreement that a firm's success is significantly affected by the managers’ ability. In this study, the DEA methodology proposed by Demerjian et al.(2012) was used to measure managerial ability. We tried to observe the short￾and long-term performance of firms from the perspective of investors. The main reason for appointing a good manager from the investor's point of view will be the rise in the firm's stock price. From a medium-term perspective, we considered that the stock price is a more direct indicator of managerial decision-making than accounting profits. The analysis results showed that a high managerial ability in the KOSPI market leads to significant BHAR for up to 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, and 36 months. In the KOSDAQ market, significant results were observed only in the relatively short term of 6 and 12 months. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that managerial ability positively affects stock returns in both KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets. The contribution of this study lies in observing whether managerial ability has a direct impact on stock returns.
