함수적 사고를 강조한 ‘규칙과 대응’ 수업에 참여한 초등학생들의 이해 분석

국문 초록

최근 초등학교 수학과 교육과정에서 함수적 사고의 관점을 반영하고 그에 대한 효과를 탐색하려는 노력이 활발하다. 이러한 맥락에서 본 연구는 함수적 사고의 신장을 강조하여 초등학교 학생들에게 규칙과 대응 단원을 지도한 후 수업에 참여한 실험반 학생들과 수업에 참여하지 않은 비교반 학생들 간의 사전·사후 검사 결과를 비교·분석하였다. 그 결과 실험반 학생들은 비연속적인 대응표를 사용하여 두 양 사이의 관계를 탐색하는 문항, 두 양 사이의 대응 관계를 변수식으로 나타내는 문항, 대응식에 어울리는 주변 상황을 찾는 문항 등에서 비교반 보다 높은 성취를 보였다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 초등학교 수학 수업에서 함수적 사고를 신장하는 방안에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Recently, there has been an active effort to reflect on the perspective of functional thinking in an elementary mathematics curriculum and to explore its effects. Given this, the purpose of this study was to compare students’ understanding of the unit of “Patterns and Correspondence” between two groups: the intervention group who learned it with new materials emphasizing functional thinking and the non-intervention group who learned it with the textbook. For this purpose, the students from three classes participated in this study and they completed pre-post test. The results of this study showed that in the post-test the intervention group performed better than the non-intervention group in exploring for a correspondence relationship using a non-sequential T-table, representing it by an expression with variables, and finding out real-life contexts appropriate to the given expression of a correspondence relationship. This paper closes with some implications on how to teach functional thinking in elementary mathematics.
