통계적 추리에서 표집 분포와 신뢰구간에 대한 이해 조사

국문 초록

본 연구는 최근 통계교육의 동향에 따라 통계적 추리에 더욱 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 비형식적 추리 추론의 개발을 위한 설계 연구 프로젝트의 일부이다. 본 연구는 대학 과정에서 기초통계학을 아직 이수하지 않은 대학생들이 표집 분포와 신뢰구간을 어떻게 이해하고, 어떤 오개념을 가지고 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 표집 분포와 신뢰구간에 대한 과제를 개발하여 표본으로 선정된 연구참여자 27명을 대상으로 검사 및 면담을 실시하고, 그 결과를 양적ㆍ질적으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 많은 연구참여자들이 표집 분포와 신뢰구간을 제대로 이해하지 못하고, 다양한 오개념을 가지고 있었다. 연구참여자들은 표본 평균의 표집 분포와 관련하여 모집단의 분포와 유사한 모양을 선택하고, 표본의 크기 효과를 인식하지 못하며, 모집단의 평균과 같다는 사실을 인식하지 못하는 경향을 보였다. 또한, 연구참여자들은 신뢰구간을 고정된 구간으로 해석하거나 모집단의 원소 또는 표본의 자료를 포함하는 구간으로 해석하는 오류를 보였다. 이러한 분석 결과로부터 통계적 추리의 지도에 대한 시사점을 도출하였다.

영문 초록

This study is a part of the design research project for the development of informal inferential reasoning. With informal inferential reasoning, students can better learn formal statistical inference, which have been shown in recent statistical education researches. The goal of this study is to investigate how the undergraduates who have not completed basic statistics course understand the sampling distribution and the confidence interval, and to find which misconceptions they have. For this purpose, we developed tasks related to sampling distribution and confidence interval, and conducted the surveys and follow-up interviews with 27 participants selected as the sample. The results were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. From the analysis, many participants did not understand the concept of sampling distribution and the confidence interval, and had various misconceptions. The participants showed a tendency to choose a shape similar to the population distribution instead of correct sampling distribution and did not recognize the effect of sample size. They also did not understand that the mean of the sample mean is the same as the mean of the population. In addition, the participants showed errors in interpreting the confidence interval such as a fixed interval without variability, or an interval containing a proportion of elements of the population as much as the confidence level, or an interval containing a proportion of the sample as much as the confidence level. With these findings, implications for the teaching of statistical inference were derived.
