국문 초록

본 논문은 장르비평의 기본 전제, 즉 장르는 저자와 독자 간의 일종의 약속을 형성한다는 것에서 출발한다. 따라서 복음서 장르를 진지하게 고려하는 유능한 독자는 그리스 로마 전기 장르의 특성을 고려하여 복음서 텍스트를 해석한다. 본 논문은 그리스 로마 전기의4가지 장르적 특성을 서술한 뒤, 이러한 장르적 특성을 고려하여 마가복음 8:27-34을 해석한다. 첫 번째 장르적 특성은 주인공에 대한집중적인 관심이다. 여타 장르와 비교했을 때 전기의 독특한 장르적특성은 글의 분량과 초점이 한 인물, 바로 주인공에게 집중된다는것이다. 두 번째 장르적 특성은 주인공에 대한 인물묘사를 통해 독자들을 덕스러운 삶으로 초청하는 것이다. 전기 작가는 주인공의 말과행동을 통해 주인공에 대해 단순히 정보를 전달하는 것이 아니라 주인공의 말과 행동이 창조하는 덕스러운 삶의 세계로 독자들을 초청하는 것이다. 세 번째 장르적 특성은 비교/대조의 사용이다. 첫 번째와 두 번째 장르적 특성만을 보면 전기는 주인공 외에 다른 인물들에전혀 관심을 가지지 않는 것처럼 보인다. 하지만 비교/대조는 전기가 다른 인물들에게도 관심이 있음을 보여준다. 이러한 비교/대조의 사용을 통해 특정 미덕/악덕이 강조된다. 네 번째 장르적 특성은 넓은독자층을 상정하는 것이다. 보컴, 버릿지, 스미스의 연구를 통해 전기라는 장르가 가능한 한 넓은 독자들에게 독서되길 의도되었음을 확인한다.

영문 초록

This article starts with the assumption of genre criticism that genre forms a contract between the author and readers. It also presents arguments based on the assumption that the genre of the Gospels is Greco-Roman biography. Competent readers who consider the genre of the Gospels seriously will interpret the Gospel texts in light of the genre characteristics of Greco-Roman biography. The first part of this article presents the four genre characteristics of Greco-Roman biography and the second part of it interprets Mark 8:27-34 according to these genre characteristics. The first genre characteristic is a sustained focus on the protagonist. When comparing with other genres, the unique genre characteristic of Greco-Roman biography is that not only the length but also the focus of the biographical writing is assigned heavily on the protagonist. The second genre characteristic is that by the characterization of the protagonist, the biographer invites readers to a virtuous life. The third characteristic is the use of comparison/contrast. If one knows only the first two genre characteristics, he or she may think that Greco-Roman biography does not have any concern about other characters than the protagonist. However, the use of comparison/ contrast underlines the fact that Greco-Roman biography does have concern about other characters. Biography uses comparison/ contrast in diverse ways: between the protagonist and another character, between the two different characters, and between the two concepts or virtues. The fourth characteristic is that Greco-Roman biography expects the general readership rather than the specific readership. This article claims that the genre of biography is intended to be read by a wider readership.
