국문 초록

한반도 전역에는 일본군이 아시아태평양전쟁기에 건설했던 항공기지 유적이다수 남아 있다. 이 글에서는 일본 육군과 해군이 한반도 곳곳에 건설했던 항공기지의 건설 양상과 전체 현황, 그리고 역할과 의미를 고찰하였다. 한반도 주둔일본군이 한반도 내에 항공기지를 주로 건설한 때는 아시아태평양전쟁 말기였다. 특히 남한지역에 더 많은 항공기지를 건설했는데 이는 미군의 공습과 상륙에 대비한 조처였다. 자료를 통해 확인한 한반도 내 일본군 항공기지는 총 47개소다. 이 중 남한지역이 31개소, 북한지역에는 16개소가 분포해 있으며, 육군항공기지는 38개소, 해군은 9개소가 확인된다. 미군의 상륙이 가시화되면서 일본군 항공기지는 점차 자살공격을 염두에 둔 특공기지로 변모했다. 이에 따라 일본군은 보유하고 있던 비행기 중 500기를 특공기로 편성하는 한편 이들을은닉하고 보호할 엄체 구축 계획을 추진한다. 당시 구축 계획에 따른 엄체는200기에 달했으며 이중 적지 않은 수가 실제 건설되었던 것으로 확인된다. 지금도 남한지역 곳곳에는 일본군이 건설한 엄체가 다수 남아 있다. 이들 엄체는일제가 전쟁 말기 한반도와 식민지 조선인들을 침략전쟁의 볼모로 사로잡은채 희생을 강제했다는 것을 증거하는 상징적인 유적이라는 점에서 중요하다.

영문 초록

There are many remains of air bases built by the Japanese military during the Asia-Pacific War on the Korean Peninsula. In this article, we looked at the construction patterns and overall status of air bases built by the Japanese Army and Navy throughout the Korean Peninsula. In addition, the role and meaning of the Japanese military air base at the end of the war were also considered. It was at the end of the Asia-Pacific War when the Japanese military mainly built air bases on the Korean Peninsula. In particular, more air bases were built in the South in preparation for U.S. air strikes and landings. There are a total of 47 Japanese air bases on the Korean Peninsula confirmed through the data. Among them, 31 are in South Korea and 16 are in North Korea. Of the 47 air bases, 38 air bases for the Army and 9 for the Navy are identified. As the landing of the U.S. military became visible, the Japanese air base gradually transformed into a place with suicide attacks in mind. As a result, the Japanese military organized 500 of its planes into units for suicide attacks. It also implemented an aircraft shelter deployment plan to hide and protect them. At that time, there were 200 aircraft shelters according to the construction plan, and many of them were actually built. Even now, many aircraft shelters built by the Japanese military remain throughout the South. These aircraft shelters are important in that they are symbolic remains to prove that the Japanese forced sacrifices by capturing the Korean Peninsula and colonial Koreans as hostage to the war of aggression at the end of the war.
