국문 초록

1990년대 이후 통일환경은 국내적으로 민주화의 진전에 따른 영향과 국제적으로 동구 사회주의 몰락으로 인하여 새로운 통일환경에 들어섰으며, 특히 2000년대 들어와 이러한 변화는 보다 구체화되어 남북관계에 있어 역사적인 남북정상회담과 이에 따른 ‘6·15 남북공동선언’, 남북한 경제교류협력의 증진, 남북한 화해협력 분위기 마련 등 평화공존의 제도화를 위한 단계로 이동중이다. 이러한 통일환경의 변화에 따라 학교통일교육은 학생들에게 북한과 민족 통일에 대한 보다 객관적이며 포용적인 인식을 갖게 하는 데 주력하고 있다. 이에 따라 학교 통일교육 특히 도덕과에서의 통일교육은 남북한 통합을 지향하려는 구체적인 목표, 내용, 방법의 모색이 요구되며, 학생들의 남북한 통합의지에 대한 구체적 검토와 형성 노력이 요구된다. 따라서 도덕과에서의 통일교육은 남북한간의 민족의 동질화 노력, 남북한간 대립되는 가치에 대한 명확한 분석 그리고 통일 미래 사회에 보다 적합한 가치 탐색 작업의 진지한 추구인 것이다. 이러한 인식하에, 본 연구는 학교 통일교육 중현행 중학교 통일교육을 ‘도덕과’를 중심으로 살펴봄으로써, 그 문제점을 지적하고 개선방향을 제시하고자 한다. 부연하면, 통일교육의 목표, 내용, 방법 그리고 운영·편성 측면에 주목하여, 나타난 문제점과 이에 대한 개선방향을 제시하였다. 그리하여 중학교 도덕과에서의 통일교육은 통일의 성격에 대한 명확한 지침이나 계획 그리고 통일교육의 목표, 내용, 방법, 운영·편성 등이 일관된 패러다임에 의해 구성되어야 하며, 이에 따라 각 부문과 영역은 유기적으로 연결됨으로써 통일교육이 요구하는 성과에 도달할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Studies on the Unification education and North Korea have been centered on the political and ideological perspective, beautifying capitalism, one-sidedly denying socialism, and highlighting negative features of North Korea. Particularly, majority of the studies are in fact characterized as the negative tendency to arouse a skepticism about reunification and unity of the two Koreas by focusing on bringing the heterogeneity and difference between the North and South Korea and reinforcing the anti-North Korea spirit assuming the North Korea is taking the initiative in the heterogeneity process. However, with the summit meeting as a start, the relations between the South Korea and the North Korea have been rapidly changed. Since then, several rounds of South-North dialogue have been carried out, and active exchange in government and private sector has been followed as well. Therefore there arises a need to study the education of Unification and North Korea in the areas that reconciliation and cooperation of South-North Korea. Especially enough efforts should be made to figure out what kind of person the growing generation of South Korea becomes through Unification education in moral subject, as well as to study, develop and suggest specific implementation direction and plans for the time after the reunification. For this purpose, this study is to explore the present status of unification education and improvement direction in the moral subject in the middle school. This study focuses upon the following four aspects : (1) objectives of unification education (2) contents of unification education (3) methods of unification education (4) formations and managements of unification education. The comprehensive conclusion of this study can be summarized as follows: First, Objectives of unification education are obscure, negligence and confuse. Therefore authority present objects of education to clearness objectives on the basis of objective understanding of North Korea and recognition a turning point due to the change in the South-North relations and environment for unification. Second, Students was found out to have insufficient knowledge and to be indifferent to the North Korea. This should be reflected in the moral subject curriculum of unification education. Contents of unification education have focused on the ideology, system and institution so far so as to be called as provider-oriented education. However, it should be improved and “deepening of understanding on living and culture of residents in North Korea” as well as “To know North Korea correctly” should be as important part in the contents. Third, unification education of school is mostly carried out as a lecture. This means that the interest level, demand and professional feature of students were not aggressively reflected. If it is unavoidable to give a lecture for this education, it is desirable to add video/audio education, questions and answers, discussion and site study to the lecture in order to organize student-oriented aggressive education. The results of the study gave the idea how the unification education should be performed in moral subject in middle school. That is, it should not be infusing contents of unification education into students. It also should help the students to understand unification environment and South-North Korea relation, systematically and synthetically, based upon which to equip themselves with the ability and attitude to actively deal with the pending issues, and not only to brace themselves up for globalization but to lead the world culture.
