국문 초록

본 논문은 고당 조만식의 교육철학에 관한 것이다. 고당은 우리 민족이 낳은 기개와 지조를 갖춘 위대한 민족교육자이자 독립운동가이자 민족선각자이다. 고당의 일생은 오직 민족을 위한 숭고한 기록으로 점철되어 있다. 그는 자신의 활동을 자신의 분명한 사상과 철학을 기초하여 설정하였다. 그의 교육철학은 크게 교육입국론, 인재양성론 및 지행합일론 세 가지로 분류하여 규정지을 수 있다. 첫째, 그의 교육입국론은 교육과 애국을 연계시킨 교육철학으로 민족의 생존 및 발전전략으로 손색이 없는 시공간을 뛰어 넘는 사상이다. 둘째, 그의 인재양성론은 민족주체역량의 구축이라는 차원에서 주장된 교육철학이다. 그의 인재양성론은 나라와 겨레를 위한 애국·애족심을 갖춘 인재의 양성을 도모한다. 마지막으로 그의 지행합일론은 신행합일론에 근거한다. 그렇기 때문에 그의 지행합일론은 철학과 현실의 접목을 의미할 뿐 아니라 신앙과 현실의 접묵을 기초한다. 이러한 그의 교육철학은 현실과 현장에서 솔선수범의 실천행, 사랑의 실천행 및 검소의 실천행으로 구체화되었다. 그의 교육철학과 실천행은 오늘날 분단 조국에 사는 우리에게 사상적·실천적 원천으로 평가된다.

영문 초록

This paper is about the educational philosophy of Godang Cho Man-sik. Godang is a great national educator, independence activist, and national visionary with the spirit and support of our people. The life of Godang is marked with a noble record only for the people. He set up his activities based on his clear ideas and philosophy. His philosophy of education can be largely divided into three categories ; the theory establishing a country through education, the theory of fostering talent, and the theory of uniting knowledge and conduct. First, his theory of establishing a country through education is an educational philosophy that connects education and patriotism, and is an idea that transcends time and space, which is comparable to the survival and development strategy of the nation. Second, his theory of fostering talent is an educational philosophy advocated in terms of building national competence. His theory of fostering talent seeks to foster talent with patriotism and affection for the nation and its people. Lastly, his theory of uniting knowledge and conduct is based on the theory of uniting faith and conduct. For this reason, his theory of uniting knowledge and conduct means not only the grafting of philosophy and reality, but also based on the connection between faith and reality. His philosophy of education was embodied in the practice of taking the initiative in reality and in the field, the practice of love, and the practice of frugality. His educational philosophy and practice are evaluated as ideological and practical sources for us living in a divided country today.
