국문 초록

본 연구는 도산 안창호의 민족운동에서 보여준 국제정세에 관한 인식이 일제 저항적 민족주의에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 그에 있어 민족독립은 민족 자립의 ‘힘’과 ‘근대화’를 통해 해결할 수 있다는 일관된 정향이 그의 투쟁적 활동과 연계되어 있다는 사실이다. 그는 힘을 양성하기 위한 교육과 근대화 그리고 신민과 신국을 구축하는 활동을 일생의 민족을 위한 독립투쟁 과정에서 보여주고 있다. 안창호는 민족의 자립과 독립은 민족적 통합의 힘에서 얻을 수 있다는 인식이 국제관계 속에서 현실적인 대안으로 찾게 된다. 여기서 국제정세는 그에게 현실적 감각을 불어넣고, 최선이 안 되면 차선이라도 민족을 위한 타협적 방법론을 계속적으로 제기한 것을 통해 알 수 있다. 이는 제1차 세계대전과 3·1운동 이후 드러난 그의 독립운동 방략에서 잘 보여주고 있다. 그에 있어 민족의 독립은 현실에 바탕을 두고 민족의 준비와 외교를 통해 기회를 잡아야 하며, 이를 통해 민족의 근대 자유주의 국가를 건설하는 것이다. 이렇듯 지속적인 독립운동에 진실하게 매진한 배경에는 국제사회변화에 대한 명확한 인식과 민족의 ‘힘’과 ‘근대화’에 대한 믿음이 전제되어 있었다고 보인다.

영문 초록

This study aims at examining the effects of Dosan An Chang-ho's viewpoint of international state of affairs during his national independence movement on the national resistance against the Japanese imperialism. He believed that the national independence could be won through Koreans' own 'power' and 'modernization', and this consistent thoughts were actually connected with his resistant activities. In order to establish a new nation with a newly educated people, he tried to raise capable people and modernize the nation throughout his lifetime struggle for the independence of Korea from the Japanese occupation. An Chang-ho tried to find out a practical alternative in the international relations with his recognition that national self-reliance and independence could be supported by national integrity. The international conditions imbued him with a sense of reality and he suggested a compromise measure for the nation even though that is not the best but the second best. And it is well revealed in his independence movement strategies after the March First Movement and World War Ⅰ. The national independence and the establishment of a modern free state could be achieved on the basis of both practical preparation of the whole nation and diplomacy, he thought. He struggled persistently for the national independence with the clear understanding of the changes in the international societies and belief in national 'power' and 'modernaization.'
