국문 초록

본 연구는 미중 갈등과 경제안보 강화 속에서 한중 경제관계 재편이 진행되는 상황에서, 한국의 對중국 직접투자가 양국 간 무역과 중국 자본형성에 미치는 경제적 효과를 실증적으로 분석하는 데 목적을 둔다. 이를 위해 1992년부터 2023년까지의 시계열 데이터를 활용하여 무역효과와 자본형성효과를 중심으로 연구를 수행하였다. 분석 결과, 對중국 직접투자는 수출과 수입 모두에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 특히 수출 효과가 더 크게 나타났다(1% 투자 증가 시 수출 0.79%, 수입 0.28% 증가). 이러한 비대칭적 효과는 자본재와 중간재 중심의 수직적 분업구조에서 기인한 것으로 나타났다. 반면, 자본형성 효과에서는 對중국 직접투자가 중국의 자본형성에 부정적 영향을 미쳤으며, 이는 중국의 기술 자립화 정책 등으로 기술집약적 산업에서 두드러지게 나타났다. 정책적 시사점으로는 글로벌 경제통상의 관점에서 한중 경제관계의 지속 가능한 발전을 위해 수직적 분업구조의 고도화, 산업별 특성을 고려한 투자 전략의 차별화, 경제안보 리스크 대응을 위한 투자 포트폴리오 다변화의 필요성을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This study empirically analyzes the economic effects of South Korea's direct investment in China on bilateral trade and China's capital formation, amidst the restructuring of Korea-China economic relations driven by U.S.-China tensions and heightened economic security concerns. Using time-series data from 1992 to 2023, the research focuses on the trade effects and capital formation effects. The analysis reveals that South Korea's direct investment in China positively impacts both exports and imports, with a stronger effect observed on exports. Specifically, a 1% increase in investment leads to a 0.79% increase in exports and a 0.28% increase in imports. This asymmetric effect is primarily attributed to the vertical division of labor, which is centered on capital goods and intermediate goods. Conversely, in terms of capital formation, South Korea's direct investment negatively affects China's capital formation, particularly in technology-intensive industries, due to China's policies promoting technological self-reliance. From a global economic and trade perspective, the study underscores the need for an advanced vertical division of labor to enhance complementary trade relations, differentiated investment strategies that account for industry-specific characteristics, and diversified investment portfolios to mitigate economic security risks for sustainable Korea-China economic relations.
