원불교 천도재와 마음치유

국문 초록

삶을 살아가고 있을 때에는 대체로 죽음을 생각하기 어렵다. 하지만 주변에서 죽음을 목격하게 되면 우리는 생과 사에 대한 갚은 사색을 하게 된다. 어떠한 삶이 진정 의미 있는 삶인지를 생각하고 다짐하는 계기가 된다. 이것이 죽음의 길을 떠난 사람이 남아 있는 사람들에게 전하는 가르침이 되기도 한다. 이 가르침은 곧 ‘생사일여’이다. 재언하면 삶과 죽음은 둘이 아니고 결코 따로 떨어져 있지 않다는 것이다. 사람은 언젠기는 죽는디는 것을 다 알고 있지만 죽음에 다다르면 대부분 두려워한다. 그 두려움의 극복방법을 종교에서 찾게 되는데 거의 모든 종교에는 나름대로의 생사관이 존재한다. 육신의 죽음이 완전한 소멸이 아닌 환생, 부활 등의 괴정을 통해 다시 태에난다고 역설하고 있다. 이러한 종교적 믿음은 무교의 굿이나 천주교의 연미사 또는 불교, 원불교의 천도의례에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 천도재에서 천도는 죽은 사람의 영혼을 바른길로 인도하는 것이다. 바른 길이란 착심이나 업으로 인한 육도윤회의 수레바퀴에 끌려다니는 것이 아닌 생사해탈의 길로 인도하는 것이다. 또한 인간 세상의 온갖 고통에서 벗어나 즐거움을 얻게 하고, 악업을 끊고 적극적으로 선업을 닦을 수 있도록 도와주는 것이다. 또한 삼계에 윤회생사하는 미혹을 버리고 깨달음을 얻는 것이다. 곧 악도를 놓고 선도에 들어가게 하는 일이다. 본고에서는 원불교 천도재의 의미와 생전·사후 천도재에 대해 알아보고 생전 천도의 중요성을 강조하였다. 또한 원불교 천도재를 통해 영가만이 아닌 가족, 참여 대중을 위한 마음치유로 고찰해 보았다.

영문 초록

It is generally challenging to think of death when living. However, when we witness death around us, we deeply contemplate life and death. Ir serves as an opportunity to think about what is meaningful in life. This is also reaching those who have left their way to death. This teaching is called ‘life and death are one’. In other words, life and death are not two and never separate. Everyone knows that one day one will die. When the time comes, one might experience much fear. Religion finds a way ro overcome that fear, and almost every religion has its own view of life and death. People argue that bodily death is nor entirely the end, and there is rebirth through the process of reincarnation and resurrection. These religious beliefS can be fuund in shamanistic rituals, the mass for rhe dead of Catholicism, or rhe deliverance ceremonies of Buddhism and Won Buddhism. In Cheondojae or Deliverance Service, Cheondo means to guide rhe soul of the dead in the right way. Barun-gil or the Right Path is not about being dragged on the wheels of Yookdo Yoon-hoe by the spirit, the six ways of reincarnation bur instead leading to a correct path of life and death. It also helps people escape all the pain of the human world and gain pleasure, cease engaging in bad dharma, and aaively cultivate good dharma. In addition, people will not full into the delusion of reincarnation of living and dying in the three realms and gain enlightenment. It is a matter of leading chem to escape from che Wrong Pach and enter che Right Pach. In this paper, I outlined the meaning of Won Buddhism's Cheondojae and its importance for life and death. I also considered Won Buddhism's Cheondojae as a way of healing will help not only the deceased, but also his/her families and che people involved.
