항공사 FFP의 마일리지 적립과 공제의 등가성에 관한 탐색적 연구

국문 초록

FFP는 주목받는 제도임에도 불구하고 항공사 마일리지의 금융적 가치에 대한 연구나 적립과 공제 시의 등가성 여부는 검토된 바가 없다. 따라서 본 연구는 FFP가 여전히 유효한 가치를 지닌 마케팅으로 활용할 수 있는 방안을 모색하는데 목적을 두고, 탑승으로 적립되는 마일리지와 보너스 항공권 발급에 사용되는 마일리지의 등가성을 비교하였다. 연구대상으로는 국내 첫 민간 항공사이며 아시아 항공사 중 처음으로 FFP를 도입했다는 점에서 K항공사의 프로그램을 선정하였다. 적립의 등가성 파악을 위해서는(1)기내등급이 같으면서 예약등급이 다른 경우를 비교하고, (2)기내등급이 서로 다른 경우로 나누어 비교하였다. 보너스 항공권 발급 시의 등가성 확인을 위해서는 보너스 항공권을 이용하는 목적지와 이용시기로 구분하여 비교하였다. 이후 세계적인 항공사 제휴프로그램인 SKYTEAM과 STAR ALLIANCE의 회원사 중 우리나라에 취항하는 주요 항공사들의 제도와 비교하고 항공사와 회원 각각에게 효율적인 방안을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

The equivalence of airline mileage accrual and redemption has not been examined and so this study focused on the economic value of the system. The study compared the equivalence between the mileage earned upon boarding and the mileage used for issuing bonus tickets with the aim of finding ways to utilize FFP as a valid and valuable marketing technique. We studied K airline since it was the first civil airline in Korea and the first Asian airline to introduce FFP. In order to evaluate the equivalence at the time of accumulation, (1) comparisons were made between flights with the same grade but with different reservation grades, and (2) grades with different flights were compared. In order to check the equivalence of awarded tickets, we compared awarded tickets according to the destination and the period of use. Then, we compared member airlines of SKYTEAM and STAR ALLIANCE that fly to Korea and proposed an efficient plan for the airlines and members respectively. These two member airlines were selected because they are both leading airline alliance programs.
