니체의 관점주의에 대한 로티의 해석

국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 니체가 역사적 절정을 추구함으로써 자신의 관점주의를 스스로 위배하고 있다는 로티의 주장을 비판적으로 검토하고, ‘신체화된 관점주의’의 가능성을 제안하는 데 있다. 어떤 식으로든 토대를 설정하는 것을 형이상학으로 회귀하는 것이라고 배격하는 로티는 모든 형태의 토대를 부정하는 우연성의 철학을 주장한다. 따라서 로티는 관점들이 우연적일 수밖에 없고, 그 어떤언어 외적 제약에도 묶일 수 없다고 주장한다. 이러한 관점 이해를 통해 로티는관점주의자 니체는 아이러니스트의 전형으로 받아들이면서도 힘에의 의지 이론가 니체는 자신의 관점주의를 위배하고 있다고 비판한다. 하지만 이러한 로티의 니체 해석은 그의 이분법적 태도에 기인한 것이다. 어떤 식으로든 지반을설정하면 형이상학으로 회귀할 수밖에 없다는 로티의 주장은 하나의 특정한철학적 편견에 지나지 않는다. 니체에게 있어 관점주의는 힘에의 의지 작용과불가분의 관계에 있으며, 이것은 니체가 더 큰 힘을 원하는 것이라기보다 관점주의에서 신체화가 필수적이라는 점을 말해주는 것일 뿐이다. ‘체험주의’의 논의를 통해 ‘신체화된 관점주의’의 가능성을 제시함으로써 니체가 자신의 관점주의를 위배하고 있지 않다는 점이 드러날 것이다.

영문 초록

The main purpose of this paper is to critically analyze Rorty’s claim that Nietzsche betrays his own perspectivism by seeking after the historical sublimation and to propose possibility of “embodied perspectivism.” Nietzsche grasps the necessity of nihilism from the history of Western metaphysics, and he finds the possibility of overcoming nihilism from the logic of the history out of which it arises. By contrast, Rorty, rejecting the very idea of necessity,sees nihilism just as an accidental phenomenon. Thus, Rorty argues that we do not need to bother about overcoming nihilism at all. The difference between Nietzsche and Rorty on nihilism eventually leads to different views on perspectivism. While Nietzsche sees perspectivism as an active means to overcome nihilism, Rorty sees it as an inactive condition of contingent life. Rorty wants to see only the marginal and parasitic aspects of Nietzsche’s perspectivism. Rorty’s argument is grounded in his implicit dichotomy, in which we are to sway back into a form of universalism as soon as we accept any notion of a basis. However, Rorty’s radical renunciation of the notion of the basis gives rise to a self-contradiction, in which he cannot locate the very ground of his own criticism. I tried to show that the experientialist account of the notion of “the embodied conceptual system” offers us a viable way of reading Nietzsche’s perspectivism, while showing how Rorty’s dichotomous fear is ungrounded. The experientialist account of the nature of “the embodied experience,”largely drawing on the empirical findings of cognitive science, emphasizes the centrality of the body in forming our conceptual system. This view seems to offer the necessity and possibility of reading Nietzsche’s perspectivism as a form of “embodied perspectivism.”
