해방 전 한국에 소개된 종말론 문헌 고찰

국문 초록

이 논문의 목적은 해방 전 한국에 전래된 장로교 선교사들의 저서와 번역서를 중심으로 한국에 소개된 종말론 문헌들을 고찰하려는 데 있다. 연구자는 종말론 문헌들에 나타난 중요한 사상들과 논점들을 다음과 같이 숙고하여 정리했다. 첫째, W. E. 블랙스톤, J. H. 브룩스, W. L. 스왈런, W. M. 베어드, W. B. 도슨 등 구미(歐美) 저자들의 종말론 관련 저술들을 선정하여 요한계시록의 핵심주제, 천년왕국 직전에 전개되는 역사, 천년왕국론에 관한 관점, 최후심판과 영원세계, 독특한 논점 등을 살펴봄으로써 종말론에 관한 다양한 논지들을 고찰했다. 둘째, 이지명(李志明), 왕좌화(王佐華), 정의화(丁義華), 가옥명(賈玉銘) 등 중국인 저자들의 종말론 관련 저술들을 선정하여 전술한 내용과 동일한 방식으로 요한계시록의 목적, 천년왕국 직전에 전개되는 역사, 천년왕국론에 관한 관점, 최후심판과 영원세계, 독특한 논점 등을 살펴봄으로써 종말론에 관한 다양한 논지들을 고찰했다. 셋째, 본고에서 천착한 논지들에 근거하여 현세와 내세의 일원적 통합 노력, 소명의식, 그리스도인의 실천적 윤리, 철저한 성경적 종말론 교육 등 오늘날 그리스도인들을 계도하기 위한 실천적 교훈을 제시했다. 부언하여 연구자는 본고를 토대로 향후 일제강점기 교단별 종말론, 한국 목회자들의 종말론, 종말론 토착화, 삼계관(三界觀), 시대적 배경과 묵시사상, 천년왕국론 비교분석 등 종말사상과 관련된 다양한 주제들로 외연(外延)할 것을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This research aims to study eschatological literatures introduced to Korea before liberation, focusing on the works and translations of the presbyterian missionaries. The author considers the important thoughts and points revealed in eschatological literatures as follows. Firstly, the Western eschatological writings of W. E. Blackstone, J. H. Brooks, W. L. Swallen, W. M. Baird, W. B. Dawson are chosen and summarized the views of eschatology such as the core themes of Revelation, the previous history of the millennium, the various views of the millennial kingdom, the last judgment and eternal world, unique arguments, and so forth. Secondly, in the same manner as mentioned above, the Chinese eschatological writings of Lee Ji Myeong, Wang Jwa Hwa, Jeong Eui Hwa, Ga Ok Myeong are chosen and summarized the views of eschatology such as the purpose of Revelation, the previous history of the millennium, the various views of the millennial kingdom, the last judgment and eternal world, unique arguments, and so forth. Thirdly, the author proposes practical lessons to today’s Christians on the basis of the content of this research such as efforts for unified integration of this world and the next, sense of vocation, Christian practical ethics, thorough education on biblical eschatology, and so on. In adition, the author suggests future extensions of this research into other eschatological thoughts in the period of Japanese colonialism such as denominational eschatology, eschatology of Korean ministers, eschatological indigenization, views of three worlds, periodic background and apocalyptism, comparative analysis of the millenarianism, and so on.
