니체의 행복론

국문 초록

본 논문에서 필자는 니체의 ‘행복론’을 조명하고자 한다. 니체는 쇼펜하우어로 대표되는 염세주의 철학에 반대하여 (고통 등 부적 감정의 부재로서 정의되기 보다는 즐거움, 기쁨, 희열 등 정적인 감정의 총체로서 이해되는) 적극적의미의 ‘행복’을 인간적인 가능성으로 보고 그러한 행복의 ‘가능 조건’을 모색했던 철학자라고 볼 수 있다. 더 나아가, 쾌락주의, 행복주의 등에 대한 냉소적태도에도 불구, 그는 행복과 (그 구성요소로의) 기쁨, 즐거움 등의 우리 삶에의기여에 주목하고 그것들에 윤리적인 의미를 부여한 철학자이기도 하다. 필자는본고에서 니체의 행복에 대한 관점, 특히 행복이 과연 어떻게 가능한지에 대한그의 생각을 집중적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 필자는 니체가 행복의 직, 간접적 조건들로서 제시하는 주요 요인들을 하나씩 소개하고 그것들 각각의 본질/구조가 무엇인지, 그리고 니체의 관점에서그것들이 어떻게 행복에 기여하는지를 설명한다. 간략하게 말해, 니체 규범윤리학, 특히 그 나름의 가치이론 상의 ‘가치’들은 행복의 주요 직, 간접적 (필요) 조건들이기도 하고, 이런 의미에서 니체가 보기에 행복과 가치는 따로 떼어서 생각할 수 없는 것들이다. 특히, 니체 윤리학 내에서 핵심적 위치를 차지하고있는 ‘창조적인 삶’과 니체적인 ‘탁월성’들은 행복의 필수적 조건들이라고 할수 있다. 필자는 이 외에도 성장, 여가 활동, 고통, 삶에의 긍정, 망각, 도덕으로부터의 자유 등을 니체가 제시하는 행복의 직, 간접 조건들로서 소개한다. 또한필자는, (행복의 한 조건으로서의) ‘삶에의 긍정’을 논의하는 맥락에서, 그것과깊은 관련을 맺는 니체의 유명한 “영원회귀”설에 대한 설명을 제시한다.

영문 초록

In the present work, I attempt to explore what Nietzsche’s own ‘philosophy of happiness’. Nietzsche, in opposition to pessimism, of which Schopenhauer’s philosophy is clearly representative, considered ‘happiness’ in the positive sense of the term as a human possibility, and sought to find the conditions of its possibility. Moreover, despite his derogative treatment of hedonism and eudaimonism, Nietzsche admitted that joy or happiness makes significant contributions to our life and conferred ethical meaning on the former. This writing centres on Nietzsche’s account of the (direct or indirect) conditions for happiness. To be more precise, in this writing, I present factors that Nietzsche appears to regard as decisive for happiness one by one, and try to answer the questions of what these factors consist in, and of how they contribute to happiness from Nietzsche’s perspective. In brief, as it does seem, Nietzsche links the major values in his own substantive ethical standard to human happiness and in this sense, for him, happiness can hardly be conceived in separation from value. Especially, the ‘creative way of life’ and Nietzschean ‘excellences’ that occupy the central position in his theory of value are necessary conditions for happiness. I introduce other important factors Nietzsche has in mind, such as ‘growth’,‘suffering’ and ‘life-affirmation’, and try to examine them in detail. Also, I present an exposition of Nietzsche’s famous “doctrine” of “eternal recurrence”in the context where I discuss the life-affirmation in Nietzschean sense, which is closely related to the doctrine.
