김정은 시대 사회주의 강국 건설을 지향하는 과학환상소설 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 김정은 시대 『조선문학』에 수록된 「숲을 사랑하라」(2016), 「숲은 젊어진다」(2019) 등 과학환상소설에 담긴 사회주의 강국 건설을 향한 북한의 지향점을 분석한다. 특히 본 연구는 최근 김정은이 사회주의 강성국가 건설의 목적으로 산림 복원 노력을 강화하고 있다는 점에 주목한다. 이를 고려하여 본 연구는 산림을 소재로 한 과학환상소설에 드러나 있는 ‘산림복구전투’가 북한의 경제 문제해결 방안과 미래 표상을 어떻게 반영하고 있는지를 살펴보고자 한다. 김정은은 지식경제 시대 그리고 그 핵심을 이루는 과학기술의 역할을 거듭 강조해 왔다. 이에 따라 문예지에 수록된 과학환상문학의 비중이 2000년대부터 지속해서 증가함을 확인할 수가 있었다. 김정은시대 과학환상문학 작품을 관통하는 핵심은 ‘인간과 사회의 문제’를 해결하고, 이를 통해 사회주의 낙원의 건설을 구현하고자 하는 의지의 표상이다. 이와 관련하여 과학환상소설에 표현된 제재를 분석해보면 오늘날 북한이 처한 상황과 밀접한 관련이 있음을 알 수 있다. 2019년 하노이 북미정상회담 ‘공동합의문’ 도출이 무산된 이후부터 북한은 ‘자력갱생’과 ‘경쟁담론’, ‘정면돌파전’이라는 구호를 내걸고 생존 활로를 모색하고 있다. 하지만 김정은 시대 과학환상문학은 ‘영원한 진행형의 지상낙원’만을 그리고 있고, 기술적 유토피아만을 부각하고 있다. 북한은 2015년부터 ‘산림복구 10개년 전투’에 주목해 왔다. 이런 상황에서 『조선문학』에 수록된 「숲을 사랑하라」, 「숲은 젊어진다」의 작품 속 인물들은 ‘자주성과 창조성을 지닌 주체적 인간’으로서 사회주의 강성국가 건설을 주도해 나간다. 그들은 ‘주체적 인간’으로서 미래 문제에 주목하고, 문제 해결을 둘러싼 인물들 간의 갈등을 통해 진정한 과학자로 거듭난다는 특징을 보인다. 북한 당국도 강성대국의 문을 열 수 있는 관건인 경제에 주목하고 있다. 특히, ‘자립경제로 사회주의 낙원 건설’이라는 주제가 잘 드러난 작품은 ｢숲을 사랑하라｣와 ｢숲은 젊어진다｣이다. 이 두 작품의 인물은 ‘창조적 사색’을 통해 인민경제와 사회주의 건설에 이바지하고자 한다. 특히 ｢숲을 사랑하라｣의 주요 인물을 통해 『주체문학론』의 자주성이 드러나는데, ‘공산주의 인간학’, ‘주체적 인간학’을 부각하는 이러한 모습은 청년 김정은의 지도자적 면모를 드러내는 ‘수령형상문학’의 전형적인 창작 기제이다. 김정은 시대의 「숲은 젊어진다」에서 ‘푸른 숲’은 ‘젊고 설레는 조국’이자 ‘부강하고 번영한 조국’이며, 자립경제에 대한 열망을 표상한다. 또한 이 작품에서는 ‘산림 보호 업무가 미래 세대를 위한 도덕공동체 책무’라는 인식의 변화를 엿볼 수 있다. 이처럼 김정은 시대에 산림을 소재로 한 과학환상소설은 근대과학 기술과 ‘주체 문학론’, 북한 사회체제의 미래에 대한 지향과 염원, 그리고 기대가 종합적으로 결합한 소설 장르임을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The objective of this study is to investigate North Korea’s aim towards building a socialist powerhouse, which appeared in the science fiction novels such as「Love the forest」(2016, 「sup-eul salanghala」) and「Forest becomes young」(2019, 「sup-eun jeolm-eojinda」) in『Chosun Literature』(『Chosunmunhag』) under the Kim Jong-un regime. In particular, this study focused on the fact that Kim Jong-un recently paid attention to strengthening forest restoration for the construction of a socialist powerhouse. In consideration of this, this study examined how the ‘forest restoration battle’ illustrated in those science fiction novels reflected solutions for North Korea’s economic problems and the shape of the future of North Korea. Kim Jong-un has repeatedly emphasized the knowledge economy and the role of science and technology. Accordingly, we confirmed that the number of science fiction novel has been increasing again since the 2000s in accordance with Kim Jong-un’s policy to build a scientific and socialist powerhouse. The core of the scientific fantasy literature of the Kim Jong-un era is the symbol of the will to solve the 'human and social problems' and realize a socialist paradise through this solution. In this regard, as a result of investigating the materials used in science fiction novels, it was found that they are closely related to the situation in North Korea today. Since the 2019 U.S.-North Korea summit in Hanoi failed to converge on ‘joint agreement’, North Korea is seeking survival and a way out of the crisis by “self-reliance”, “competitive discourse” and “head-on breakthrough”. However, the science fiction literature of Kim Jong-un era illustrated only a ‘progressive socialist paradise on earth’ and emphasized only a technological utopia. North Korea has been paying attention to the '10-year battle for the restoration of forest' since 2015. In「Love the Forest」 and 「The Forest becomes young」, the characters are 'creative and independent human beings', and they lead the construction of a socialist powerhouse. The characters focused on future problems as ‘independent human beings’ and became true scientists through conflicts between people to solve future problems. In addition, authorities of North Korea paid attention to economy, which is a key to realizing a strong and prosperous nation. In particular, both「Love the Forest」 and 「The Forest becomes young」 clearly represent the theme of ‘building a socialist paradise by self-reliant economy’. The characters in these two works contributed to building a powerful socialist country through their creative speculations. In particular, the independence of 'self-reliant literature' is revealed through the main characters of 'Love the Forest'. This aspect of emphasizing 'communist anthropology' and 'self-reliant anthropology' is a typical creative major creation mechanism of ‘literature for shaping chieftain figure’, revealing young Kim Jong-un’s leadership. In 「The Forest becomes young」, the concept exhibited through ‘Green forest’ is aspiration of ‘a young and exciting country’, ‘a rich and prosperous country’, and a self-reliant economy. And this work showed the changes of perception that ‘business for forest conservation is a moral responsibility for future generations’. Therefore, it was demonstrated that the science fictions published under the Kim Jong-un regime is a new genre that comprehensively combined modern science and technology, ‘self-reliant literature’, and aspirations and expectations for the future of the North Korean socialist regime.
