트랜스휴머니즘의 몸의 취약성 제거론에 대한 생명윤리적 비판

국문 초록

본 논문은 ‘인간 몸의 취약성’이 문제가 되고 있는 포스트코로나 시대에 ‘인간 몸의 취약성을 제거’하여 인간 몸의 공학적ㆍ인위적 진화를 시도하는 트랜스휴머니즘의 포스트휴먼 기획에 대한 비판을 목적으로 한다. 우선 취약성 개념을 단초로 하여 트랜스휴머니즘이 주장하는 취약성의 종류와 맥락을 파악한다. 이어 공학적 진화를 시도하는 트랜스휴머니즘의 환원화된 인간몸관을 존재론적 인격주의 관점에서 고찰할 것이다. 인간의 몸은 생명을 가진 몸, 목적을 향한 활동을 하는 몸, 본성을 담지하는 몸이라는 인격주의적 몸관을 제시하면서 인간의 몸은 인간 자체임을 주장한다. 트랜스휴머니즘의 ‘몸의 취약성 제거론’에 내포된 과학주의적ㆍ공리주의적ㆍ계몽주의적 가치관은 인간을 몸과 소외시키고, 삶을 유용성 차원으로 환원함으로써 인간의 생명과 삶을 도구화할 수 있다. 또한 몸의 취약성을 제거하고자 하는 시도는 다른 차원의 취약성으로 변경될 수 있다. 한편 몸의 취약성을 통해 타자에 공감하고, 자신을 완성하고, 타자와 함께 성장할 수 있다. 결론적으로 몸의 취약성은 완전히 제거되어야 할 부정적 요소가 아니라 인간존엄성의 토대이며, 인간번영의 토대이기에 존중받아야 할 인간의 본질임을 제시한다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to critique the post-human project of transhumanism that attempts to engineer and artificially evolve the human body by 'removing the vulnerability of the human body' in the post-corona era where 'the vulnerability of the human body' is a problem. First, taking the concept of vulnerability as a starting point, the type and context of vulnerability claimed by transhumanism are identified. Next, transhumanism's reductionist perspective of the human body to attempt engineering evolution is considered. From the point of view of ontological Personalism, the human body is presented as a body with life, a body that acts toward a life purpose and a body that holds human nature. This paper asserts that the human body reveals the human being itself. The scientific, utilitarian, and Enlightenment values embedded in the transhumanism's strategy for eliminating the vulnerability of the body can instrumentalize human life by alienating the human being from the body and reducing human life to the level of usefulness. Rather, This strategy can lead to new vulnerability. On the contrary, the vulnerability of the human body has a positive aspect, which allows the human being to be more empathetic to others, to complete himself, and to grow with others. In conclusion, the vulnerability of the human body is not a negative factor that needs to be completely eliminated, but a marker that clearly shows the basis of human dignity and human flourishing.
