코로나 시기, 주돌봄자의 정신장애인 돌봄 경험

국문 초록

본 연구는 코로나 시기, 모든 정신건강복지서비스가 중단, 축소된 상황에서 돌봄을 도맡아온 정신장애인 주돌봄자의 경험에 관한 질적 연구이다. 이에 코로나 이전에 정신건강복지서비스 이용 경험이 있는 정신장애인의 주돌봄자 6명을 연구참여자로 하여 포커스그룹인터뷰(Focus Group Interview)를 실시하였으며, 이들의 평균 돌봄 기간은 18년이었다. 분석결과, 코로나 이전의 경험주제는 ‘모든 것이 제자리로 돌아가던 중’으로, 고립된 환자로 살아가던정신장애 자녀들이 회복과 ‘보통의 일상’을 찾아가고, 주돌봄자는 독박 돌봄에서 벗어나 휴식을 되찾고 있었던 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 코로나 19로 모든 지원 서비스들이 중단되고 축소된 이후의 참여자들의 경험은 자녀의 증상 재발, 다시 시작된 독박 돌봄으로 인한 주 돌봄자의 ‘고립’, 집안에서 24시간 정신장애 자녀를 돌보며 자녀와 참여자 사이의 경계가 무너지는‘묶임’, 그리고 코로나 시기에 모든 사회안전망에서 소외된 참여자들이 생존을 위해 선택한가족과 동료들, 즉 당사자들 간의 ‘미완의 연대’가 대주제로 분석되었다. 본 연구는 이러한 분석 결과를 근거로 코로나 시기와 같은 위기에 주돌봄자들의 고립, 묶임, 미완의 연대를 극복하는 대안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study is a qualitative study on the experiences of the primary caregivers with mental disorders during COVID-19 pandemic period, when all mental health services were suspended. Data collection was conducted through FGI with 6 primary caregivers with mental disorders, and their average care period was 18 years. As a result of the analysis, the theme of the experience prior to COVID-19 was ‘everything is returning to its normal place’, and adult children with mental disorders who lived as isolated patients recovered and regained their ‘normal daily life’, and the primary caregiver was returning a break from tyrannical care. However, as all support services were suspended or reduced due to COVID-19, the participants experienced ‘isolation’ due to the relapse of their children’s symptoms and restarted loneliness, and all day caring for children with mental disorders at home, where the boundary between the children and the participants breaks down. ‘tying’ and the ‘incomplete solidarity’ between the family and fellow mentally disabled family, that is, the parties selected for survival by the participants who are marginalized from all social safety nets during the Corona period, were analyzed as major themes. And based on these results, alternatives were presented to overcome the isolation, tying, and incomplete solidarity of primary caregivers in a crisis such as COVID-19.
