여성 북한이탈주민의 직업생활을 통해 바라본 남한 사회적응에 관한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 여성 북한이탈주민의 직업생활을 통해 남한 사회적응의 의미를 분석하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 직업생활을 하고 있는 여성 북한이탈주민 8명을 선정하고 심층 면접을 시행하여 자료를 수집하는 질적 사례연구 방법으로 분석하였다. 주요 연구 결과는 총 5개의 영역으로 주제화하고, 10개의 범주군과 25개 하위 범주로 구조화하였다. 5개 주제는 ‘냉정한 현실의 벽과 마주함’, ‘직업 세계로의 도전과 적응’, ‘나를 견디게 하는 개인적 자원’, ‘나에게 절실한 사회적 자원’, ‘남한 사회적응의 의미’이다. 본 연구 결과에 근거하여 실천적 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 취업 진입 및 직업 유지를 위한 남북하나재단, 하나센터와 같은 공적 기관이나 민간기관들의 실효성 있는 직업교육 및 다양한 직업 현장 발굴과 취업 연계에 대한 역할이 중요하다. 둘째, 북한이탈주민에 대한 직업 현장 및 사회 전반에 나타나는 편견과 부정적인 인식을 개선하기 위한 공적인 기관들의 노력이 필요하다. 셋째, 여성 북한이탈주민들이 가진 인적자본 향상을 위한 교육 훈련이 진행되어야 한다. 넷째, 지역공동체에서 이들을 멘토링 해주고 함께 교류할 수 있는 지원이 활성화되어야 한다. 다섯째, 70%가 넘는 여성이라는 젠더적 특성에 맞는 정책을 합법화하고 세분화하여야 한다. 본 연구는 여성 북한이탈주민의 남한 사회적응 과정에서 경험하는 다양한 문제들을 직업생활 관점에서 분석하여 이에 대한 실천적 방안을 제시했다는 데 그 의의가 있다. 또한, 남한 사회적응에 가장 중요한 직업생활 경험을 심층 면접을 통해 실제적인 사례를 담아냄으로써 향후 남한 사회적응을 지원하는 정책 수립과 제도적 개선에 필요한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the North Korean(NK) refugee women’s occupational life and the meaning of social adaptation in South Korean society. This study utilized qualitative casestudy methods, and qualitative data were collected from the eight participants who has occupational life through in-depth interviews, As a result, 5 major themes were categorized, and 10 themes and 25 subthemes were identified. The 5 major themes are ‘Facing the wall of cold reality’, ‘Challenge and adaptation for occupational world’, ‘Personal resources that make me endure’, ‘Social resources I desperately need’, and ‘Meaning of social adaptation to South Korea’. Practical suggestions based upon the results are as follows: First, in order to relieve the feeling of psychological isolation, which is a hindrance to social adaptation in South Korea, a psychological support service at the regional level is needed. Second, for job entry and job retention, the role of public or private institutions such as Korea Hana Foundation is important, such as effective vocational education, discovery of various job sites, and employment linkage. Third, public institutions should make effort to improve the prejudice and negative perceptions of NK refugees in the occupational field and in society in general. Fourth, work and life balance support policies should be broadly supported and subdivided in consideration of the unique characteristics of women, NK refugees, and workers. Fifth, it is necessary to develop and conduct an education program to improve the internal resilience of NK refugee women. Last, local communities should expand mentoring programs and opportunity to interact each other. This study is meaningful in that it analyzed various problems experienced by NK refugee women in the process of adapting to South Korean society and their occupational life experiences and suggested practical measures. In addition, by conducting in-depth interviews and providing practical examples of working experiences that are the most important for South Korean social adaptation, it is expected to provide basic data necessary for policy establishment and institutional improvement to support adaptation to South Korean society in the future.
