과학영재교육원 수료생이 화학 주제 자유 탐구 과정에서 겪은 실험의 어려움에 관한 사례연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 중학생일 당시 과학영재교육원을 수료한 두 명의 학생이 자율형 사립고등학교에 진학하여 1년간 화학 주제 연구를 수행할 때 실험 과정에서 경험한 어려움을 살펴보았고, 이를 바탕으로 교육적 시사점을 탐색했다. 화학 주제 연구 과정에서 학생들이 경험한 실험의 어려움은 세 가지 측면에서 바라볼 수 있었다. 첫째, 탐구 주제에 적합한 기자재를 갖춘 실험실을 구하기 어렵다는 환경적 측면이 있다. 둘째, 실험에 활용할 수 있는 기자재가 있다 하더라도 장비를 능숙하게 사용하고, 시료를 꼼꼼하게 제작하는데 필요한 암묵적 지식을 습득하기 어렵다는 기능적 측면이 있다. 마지막으로 정서적 측면에서, 미시적인 입자의 관점으로 실험을 수행하고 해석하는 화학의 학문적 특성에 기인한 높은 불확실성에 대한 불안감이 있다. 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 본 연구는 과학영재교육, 화학교육, 실험교육 맥락의 시사점을 도출했다.

영문 초록

This study examines the difficulties of experiments in the process of open inquiry on chemistry experienced by two graduates of science-gifted education institute. The difficulties students experienced could be viewed from three aspects. First, there is an environmental aspect in that it is difficult to find a laboratory with equipment suitable for the research topic. Second, there is a functional aspect in that it is difficult to acquire the tacit knowledge required to use the equipment skillfully and to meticulously prepare a sample even if there are equipment that can be used for the experiment. Finally, in the emotional aspect, there is anxiety about high uncertainty due to the academic nature of chemistry that conducts and interprets experiments from the perspective of microscopic particles. Based on these analysis results, this study drew implications in the context of science-gifted education, chemistry education, and experimental education.
