국문 초록

우리가 거주하고 있는 지구는 다름 아닌 우주선의 보조선과 마찬가지로 우리의 생명을 지탱시켜주는 생명부양환경이다. 공기, 물, 식량, 동력을 제공하는 생명부양계인 지구는 오염과 부적절한 관리, 인구증가 압력으로 열악해져가고 있다. 우리는 인류의 지속적인 생명부양에 필요한 물질들과 조건들에 관한 전체적인 정보를 가지고 있지 않으며, 그것들이 어떻게 상호작용하고 있는지 완전히 이해하지 못하고 있다. 만일 지구에 핵폭발이 일어나거나, 환경이 현재의 속도로 오염되는 경우, 우리가 얼마나 오래 지구에서 버틸 수 있을지 모른다. 이에 대한 환경문제의 해결방안으로 기술지향적 환경론과 생태지향적 환경론을 들 수 있다. 그 가운데 기술지향적 관점을 거부하는 이유는 그 이유는 문제를 발생시킨 과학기술로는 문제가 근본적으로 해결되지 않는다고 보기 때문이다. 반면 생태지향환경론자들이 주장하는 것처럼 하루아침에 기술문명을 포기하고 생태적인 삶으로 우리의 삶의 양식을 바꿀 수도 없을 것이다. 따라서 현대 과학기술문명은 근대의 과학적 페러다임의 토대 위에 성립한 것이라고 했을 때, 현대문명이 지니고 있는 환경문제는 그 과학적 패러다임을 검토함으로써 보다 근본적인 진단과 해결책이 마련될 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

The Earth we live on, like a spaceship, is a life-support environment that supports our lives. The earth, which provides air, water, food, and power, is deteriorating due to pollution, improper management, and pressure on population growth. We don’t have the overall information about the substances and conditions needed to sustain human life and don’t fully understand how they interact. If there is a nuclear explosion on Earth or the environment is polluted at its current rate, we don’t know how long we can survive on Earth. Technology-oriented environmental theory and ecological-oriented environmental theory can be cited as solutions to environmental problems. The reason for rejecting the technology-oriented view is that the problem cannot be solved fundamentally by the science and technology that caused the problem. On the other hand, as ecologically-oriented environmentalists argue, we cannot abandon technological civilization and change our way of life in an ecological way. Therefore, when modern scientific and technological civilization is based on modern scientific paradigm, the environmental problems of modern civilization can be more fundamentally diagnosed and solved by examining the scientific paradigm.
