구약성서 창세기의 반정주적(反定住的) 세계관

국문 초록

이 연구는 구약성서 창세기에 기술된 정주관을 고고학 및 역사신학적 성과를 바탕으로 인문학적 시각에서 고찰한다. 이 연구는 차일드의 잉여산물설을 토대로 농경, 정주, 도시형성을 전체 도시화 과정의 일부로 이해한다. 이 연구는 에덴 동산과 실낙원, 가인의 후예와 문명, 바벨 성읍의 붕괴, 아브라함 일가의 유랑과 정착, 소돔의 몰락 등 일련의 이야기를 통해 창세기가 일관되게 반정주, 반농업·친유목, 반도시, 반권위, 반국가의 세계관을 설파하고 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 일련의 인식은 BC 600~540년경 바빌론 포로기 유대인들의 바빌론 정주 경험의 산물로 추정된다. 바빌론으로 끌려간 유대인들은 노예 또는 농노로서 바빌론의 찬란한 농업문명 건설에 투입되어야 했고, 이 과정에서 지배자 및 정주·농업문명에 대한 적대감과 종말론적 신앙에 대한 염원을 갖게 되었다고 판단된다. 유대인들의 반정주, 반농업, 반국가의 세계관은 이후 팔레스타인 정착과 농경생활의 진전을 통해 다소 바뀌지만, 반도시의 인식만은 확고하게 견지됨을 구약성서 전반의 내용을 통해 확인할 수 있다. 이러한 반도시적 인식은 이후 서구 기독교 문화권의 반도시적 세계관의 일단을 이루게 된다.

영문 초록

This study examines the point of view of settlement of Genesis in the Hebrew Bible from a humanistic perspective based on archaeological and historical-theological achievements. Based on the surplus product theory suggested by Gordon Childe, this study regards cultivation, settlement, and urban formation as the whole process of urbanization. This study, through a series of stories of the Garden of Eden and Paradise Lost, the descendants of Cain and the civilizations built by them, the collapse of the town of Babel, the wanderings and settlements of the Abraham family, and the fall of Sodom in Genesis, identifies the consistent point of view that is anti-settlement, anti-agricultural and pro-nomadic, anti-urban, anti-authoritarian, and anti-state. This perception is presumed to result from the experiences of the Jews during the Babylonian exile around 600-540 BC. The Jews who were taken to Babylon were forced to be put into the construction of Babylon’s splendid agricultural civilization as slaves or serfs. The series of worldviews mentioned above changed somewhat through the Jews’ settlement in Palestine and the promotion of agricultural life. However, it can be confirmed that only the anti-urban perception is firmly maintained. Hereafter, this anti-urban awareness has formed a part of the anti-urban worldview of Western Christian culture.
