노년기 자아존중감과 인지욕구가 스마트기기 활용능력에 미치는 영향에 대한 성별의 조절효과

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 노년기 자아존중감과 인지욕구가 스마트기기 활용능력에 미치는 영향에 대한 성별의 조절효과를 탐색하는것이다. 연구대상은 한국미디어패널 11차년도 조사(2020년)에 참여하였으며 스마트기기를 1개 이상 보유하고 있는 60세 이상의 노인2,121명(남성 노인 1,012명, 여성 노인 1,109명)이다. 종속변수는 스마트기기 활용능력, 독립변수는 자아존중감과 인지욕구, 조절변수는성별이며 통제변수로 연령, 교육수준, 혼인상태, 직업유무, 스마트기기 보유 대수가 포함되었다. 분석 방법으로는 IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 프로그램의 PROCESS를 이용하여 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 자아존중감이 스마트기기 활용능력에 미치는 영향에서성별의 조절효과가 유의미하지 않았다. 대신 남녀 모두 자아존중감이 높을수록 스마트기기 활용능력 수준이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 인지욕구가 스마트기기 활용능력에 미치는 영향에서는 성별의 조절효과가 통계적으로 유의미하였다. 구체적으로, 인지욕구와 스마트기기 활용능력의 긍정적 관계는 여성 노인보다 남성 노인에게서 더 강하게 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 오늘날 디지털 시대를 살아가는노인들에게 자아존중감과 인지욕구와 같은 개인의 심리동기적 특성이 스마트기기 활용능력에 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 보여주며, 특히인지욕구와 스마트기기 활용능력 간 관련성이 성별에 따라 달라짐을 경험적으로 검증했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between self-esteem and desire for knowledge and the ability to use smart devices among older adults. The present sample included 2,121 individuals (1,012 males and 1,109 females) aged 60 or older who owned smart devices, and participated in the eleventh wave of the Korean Media Panel Data in 2020. The independent variables were self-esteem and desire for knowledge, and the dependent variable was the ability to use smart devices. Gender was included as a moderating variable, and age, educational level, marital status, job status, and the number of smart devices owned were controlled for. Multiple regressions were conducted using PROCESS in IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0. Findings showed that the moderating effect of gender in the relationships between desire for knowledge and the ability to use smart devices was significant. Further analysis showed that the effects of desire for knowledge on the ability to use smart devices were stronger in elderly men than in elderly women. The results highlight that personal psychological and motivational characteristics such as self-esteem and desire for knowledge can affect the ability to use smart devices in later digital life.
