국문 초록

본고의 연구목적은 1926년에 창간된 기독교 아동문학지인 『아이생활』이 창간될 수 있었던 역사적, 사회적, 사상적 배경과 상황에 대해서 알아보고, 『아이생활』이 가진 이념적 지향성에 대해 해명하는 것이다. 『아이생활』 발간 전의 시대적, 사상적 조류에 대해 연구하고 그것이 잡지의 발간과 성격 형성에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 알아보려 한다. 이 연구를 위해서는 1920년대 식민지조선의 사회주의와 자유주의 신학에 대해 살펴보아야 한다. 1920년대 조선에서 사회주의가 크게 발흥하면서 사회주의의 무신론과 유물론적 세계관에 많은 지식인들과 청년들이 영향을 받았으며 이것은 반기독교적 양상으로 나타났다. 두 번째로 살펴보아야 할 것은 자유주의 신학이다. 자유주의 신학은 조선에서 그 영향력을 키우면서 조선의 근본주의적 기독교에 도전하였다. 미국 신학계에서 시작된 자유주의 신학의 물결은 조선에까지 영향을 미쳤고 근본주의적 기독교의 특성인 ‘성경무오설’을 비롯하여 기독교의 여러 근본교리에 대해 도전하였다. 이러한 도전은 당시 조선의 주류였던 보수적 기독교계에는 상당히 위협적이었다. 본고는 이러한 사회주의와 자유주의 신학의 도전에 조선의 기독교계가 대응하는 방식으로 나타난 것의 하나가 『아이생활』이었을 것으로 추측한다. 1920년대 당시의 사회주의 물결과 반기독교적 경향, 자유주의 신학을 경계하고 이에 어떻게 대응해야 할지 고민했던 선교사들과 조선의 목회자들은 출판을 통한 기독교 지식 전파로 돌파구를 마련하고자 했다. 본고에서는 이러한 흐름을 정리하고 『아이생활』이 발간될 수 있었던 배경에 1920년대의 사회적 변화와 이에 대한 기독교의 대응이 존재하고 있었으며 그 흐름이 『아이생활』의 발간에 미쳤을 영향력에 대해 설명하고자 한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to find out the historical, social, and ideological background and situation in which Children’s Life, a Christian children’s literature journal founded in 1926, and to explain the ideological orientation of Children’s Life. We will study the trends of the times and ideological trends before the publication of “Children’s Life” and find out how it affected the publication and character formation of magazines. For this study, we need to look at the socialism and liberal theology of colonial Joseon in the 1920s. With the great rise of socialism in Joseon in the 1920s, many intellectuals and young people were influenced by socialism’s atheism and materialistic worldview, which appeared as an anti-Christian pattern. The second thing to look at is liberal theology. Liberal theology challenged Joseon’s fundamentalist Christianity while increasing its influence in Joseon. The wave of liberal theology, which began in the American theological world, influenced Joseon and challenged various fundamental doctrines of Christianity, including the “Biblical Muo theory”, a characteristic of fundamental Christianity. This challenge was quite threatening to the conservative Christian community, which was the mainstream of Joseon at the time. This paper speculates that one of the things that emerged in a way that the Christian community of Joseon responded to the challenges of socialism and liberal theology was “child life.” Missionaries and Joseon pastors, who were wary of socialist waves, anti-Christian trends, and liberal theology in the 1920s and thought about how to respond to them, tried to make a breakthrough by spreading Christian knowledge through publication. In this paper, I would like to summarize this trend and explain the social changes in the 1920s and the Christian response to this in the background of the publication of “Children’s Life”, and the influence of the flow on the publication of “Children’s Life”.
