『아이생활』에 게재된 만화 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 1926년 3월에 창간하여 1944년 1월까지 18년 동안 발행되었던 『아이생활』(초기에는 『아희생활』)에 게재된 만화가 어떤 작품들이 있었는지 살펴보고자 한다. 일제 강점기에 발행된 잡지 가운데 가장 많은 만화가 게재된 것이 『아이생활』이다. 통권이 몇권인지 정확하지는 않지만 현재까지 실물로 확인 할 수 있는 『아이생활』은 159권이다. 이 가운데 만화가 게재된 것은 91권이고, 게재된 만화편수는 118편이다. 연재만화들이 다수 있어서 작품 종수를 파악해 보니 60종이다. 만화를 발표한 작가는 김길, 박천석, 한가람, 은방울 김동길, 박은혜, 마균, 임홍은, 김진수, 이보경, 김안재, 이방인, 나원봉, 김상욱, 김현재, 임동은, 남궁순, 도토리, 범택이, 김상수 등 20명 가량이고 이가운데 많은 활약을 했던 작가는 임홍은, 김진수이다. 『아이생활』에는 창간호부터 김길(金吉)의 <수남이와 노랑이>가 게재되면서 만화가 꾸준히 실렸고, 1940년 10월 김상수의 <우리집 바둑이>를 끝으로 만화는 자취를 감추었다. 『아이생활』이 발행된 18년 가운데 14년 동안 지속적으로 만화가 게재되었다. 1934년 임홍은이 등장하기 전까지는 ‘그림이야기’ 형태의 만화와 외국작품이 대부분인 짧은 유머만화가 주를 이루었으나 임홍은이 등장하여 <무쇠의 모험>을 연재하면서 본격적인 연재만화의 장을 열었다. 『아이생활』의 대표적인 만화는 1년 이상 장기 연재를 했던 연재만화들이다. 박천석의 <복동군의 모험>, 임홍은의 <무쇠의 모험>, 김진수의 <꿀꿀이의 세계일주> 시리즈, 임동은의 <해동이> 등이 있다. 1934년 11월 이전에는 외국만화에 많이 의지하다가 이후에는 모두 국내만화로 채워졌다. 『아이생활』이 기독교 잡지의 성격을 갖고 있어서 만화 내용에는 서구의 가치관과 기독교 색채가 짙게 나타난다.

영문 초록

This study aims to examine the types of the cartoon & comics published in Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) which was published for 18 years until January 1944 since the first publication in March 1926. Among the magazines published during the Japanese colonial period, Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) published the most cartoon & comics. It is not exactly known how many volumes were there, but there are 159 copies of Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) that can be verified in real so far. Among them, 91 volumes contain cartoon & comics and the total number of published cartoon & comics was 118. There are many serial cartoon & comics that can be categorized into 60 different kinds. There are about 20 writers who released cartoon & comics, including Gil Kim, Cheon-Seok Park, Hangaram, Eunbangwool Dong-Gil Kim, Eun-Hye Park, Gyun Ma, Hong-Eun Lim, Jin-Soo Kim, Bo-Kyung Lee, An-Jae Kim, Bang-In Lee, Won-Bong Na, Sang-Wook Kim, Hyun-Jae Kim, Tong-Eun Lim, Soon NamGung, Dotori, Bumtaeki, and Sang-Soo Kim. Among them, Hong-Eun Lim and Jin-Soo Kim are the most active writers. Since the first issue of Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life), cartoon & comics have been steadily published as “Sunami and Yellow” by Gil Kim was published, but the cartoons disappeared after Sang-Soo Kim’s “Our Dog, Badoogi” in October 1940. Cartoon & comics have been published continuously for 14 of the 18 years since Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) was published. Until Hong-Eun Lim appeared in 1934, cartoon & comics were in the form of ‘picture stories’ and short humor cartoons which were mostly of foreign works. Hong-Eun Lim serialized “The Adventures of Moosoe” and opened a full-fledged serial comics venue. The representative cartoon & comics of Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) are the comics that have been serialized for more than a year. Cheon-Seok Park’s “Adventures of Bokdong-gun”, Hong-Eun Lim’s “The Adventures of MooSoe”, Jin-Soo Kim’s “Ggulgguli’s Around the World” series, and Tong-Eun Lim’s “Haedongi”. Before November 1934, they relied heavily on foreign cartoon & comics, but after that time, all of they were all filled with Korean cartoon & comics. Since Aisaenghwal(Child’s Life) has the characteristics of a Christian magazine, Western values and Christian colors are strongly expressed in the cartoon contents.
