南塘 韓元震의 中庸解釋의 特徵과 그 意味

국문 초록

본고는 남당의 ꡔ중용ꡕ해석에 나타난 내용상의 양상과 특징을 중심으로 살펴보면서 그 의의를 논한 것이다. 남당의 ꡔ중용ꡕ해석은 내용면에서 크게 세 가지로 분류할 수 있다. 첫째는 본문 및 장구에 대한 해석이고, 둘째는 주자의 衆說에 대한 辨正이고, 셋째는 후대 諸儒의 설에 대한 論辨이다. 첫째의 경우는 本文의 難解處 해석, 장구에 대한 深層解釋으로 나타나며, 둘째의 경우는 ꡔ주자언론동이고-중용ꡕ에 정리되어 있는데, 장구 및 혹문의 설을 준거로 ꡔ주자대전ꡕ․ꡔ주자어류ꡕ 등의 異說을 논변한 것이며, 셋째의 경우는 饒魯와 王柏의 異說에 대한 비판, 大全本 小註에 대한 논변, 우리나라 諸儒의 설에 대한 논변으로 나타난다. 본문 및 장구에 대한 해석은, 주자의 ꡔ중용장구ꡕ를 텍스트로 한 경서해석을 보다 정밀하고 정확하게 이해하도록 전범을 만들기 위한 의도였다는 점에서 그 경학사적 의의를 찾을 수 있다. 주자의 중설에 대한 변정은, 기본적으로 주자의 正說을 확정해 혼란을 방지하기 위한 것이었다. 후대 제유의 설에 대한 논변으로, 요로와 왕백의 설에 대한 비판은 주자의 장구의 설과 다른 설이므로 비판한 것이며, 대전본 소주에 대한 논변은 ‘의리에 합치되느냐 그렇지 않느냐’와 ‘주자의 정설과 같은가 다른가’를 기준으로 분변한 것이며, 우리나라 선유의 설에 대한 논변은 사계의 ꡔ경서변의ꡕ를 저본으로 하여 율곡과 사계의 설을 지지하면서 퇴계의 설을 배척한 것이 대부분이다. 그렇지만 때론 율곡․사계․우암의 설에 대해서도 비판하였으며, 퇴계의 설에 대해 지지를 한 경우도 있다. 이런 점에서 이 역시 의리와 주자의 정설을 준거로 하고 있다.

영문 초록

This article is focussed on the aspect of Nam-dang(南塘) Han, Won-jin s(韓元震) [Jung-yong(中庸)] interpretation and its significance. It can be classified to next three contents. 1. The interpretation of the major text and jang-gu(章句) related with the textual cruxes and its futher interpretation. 2. The correction upon public opinion(衆說辨正) in [Ju-ja-eon-ron-dong-i-go] and the discussion upon some different opinions about [Ju-ja-dae-jeon(朱子大典)] and [Ju-ja-eo-ryu(朱子語類)] on the base of Jang-gu and Hok-mun. 3. The discussion about the various scholars theories after that time including the discussion about Yo-ro-wang-baek-seol(饒魯王柏說論辨), the discussion about Dae-jeon-bon-so-ju(大全本小註論辨), and the discussion about various Korean Confucian(韓國諸儒說論辨) In the interpretation of the major text and jang-gu, it is the study of Chinese classics significance that he tried to build up the model guiding in the exact and minute interpretation on the text of Chu-tsu s [Jung-yong-jan-gu]. The correction upon public opinion is a basic way to prevent the confusion, by the means of establishing the Chu-tsu s theory. The discussion about various Confucian scholar s theories run as follows; 1. Criticizing the discussion about Yo-ro-wang-baek-seol(饒魯王柏說論辨) because it is differ from the Chu-tsu s division of jang-gu. 2. Suggesting the standard whether it is in accord with the axiom or not in the discussion about Dae-jeon-bon-so-ju(大全本小註論辨), and whether it is same with the Chu-tsu s widlely accepted notion. However, in the area of the discussion about various Korean Confucian(韓國諸儒說論辨), the rejection of Toe-gye s theory take up much amount of it supporting the Yul-gok and Sa-gye s theories on the base of Sa-gye s [Gyeong-seo-byeon-eui]. In spite of it, sometimes he criticized the Yul-gok, Sa-gye, and U-am s theories with supporting the Toe-gye s theory. But it is obvious that he grasped the standard what I mentioned above.
