영문 초록

This paper studied the characteristics of a Giu(祈雨) descriptive composition and specific aspects of communicating with god as a focal point of King Sejong s annals. To secure the validity of the study, the time is restrict to King Sejong s period which contains many descriptive composition. The annals of King Sejong is carefully described procedures and methods of a ritual for rain. It means that King Sejong s annals presented the Giu ritual norms afoot the readjustment of the various national policies on early Joseon Dynasty. Under natural disasters of the specific situation such as drought, the Joseon royal family embrace buddhism. Because buddhism was for stabilizing people s livelihood for a long time, they accept its practical value. King Sejong changed communication s direction to introspection from presentation of policy. Confucian bureaucrats pass the buck to the King, turn away from the citizens livelihood and contribute to the convenience of their life. Priests and shamans take the lead in a ritual for rain before early Joseon Dynasty. When the system tuned up in an era of King Sejong, they are degraded to the mere participants from the leader of a ritual for rain.
