소통의 맥락에서 본 조선후기 友情論의 양상

국문 초록

논문은 소통의 맥락에서 조선후기 우정론의 양상을 살핀 글이다. 먼저는 조선후기에 우정 논의가 활발해지게 된 현상을, 소통 부재의 현실이라는 관점에서 짚어보았다. 이를 토대로 조선후기 우정론의 층위를 셋으로 나누어 살펴보았다. 첫째는 자기와의 소통이다. 이 태도는 외부와의 소통을 거부하고 자신과 소통하는 행위이다. 나는 나를 벗 삼겠다는 말에는 자아와 소통함으로써 자기를 지켜나가겠다는 삶의 의지가 담겨 있었다. 두 번째는 공동체 내부와의 소통이다. 이는 같은 뜻을 지닌 이들끼리 모여 공동체끼리 소통하는 경우이다. 주류 사회와 소통할 수 없었던 소외된 지식인들은 자신들의 집단의식을 공고히 하며 공동체 고유의 우정 담론을 형성했다. 연암 그룹은 친구를 가족 개념으로 이해했고, 남인은 교유론을 수용하여 ‘친구는 제2의 나’라는 생각을 적극 받아들였다. 이들이 관심을 가진 것은 집단 내부의 이익이 아니라 더 나은 세계를 위한 고민이었다. 세 번째는 이방인과의 소통이다. 담헌과 항주 세 선비와의 우정은 조선 지성사에서 가장 창조적이고 진정성 있는 소통이었다. 이들이 天涯知己를 맺은 과정을 통해 진정한 소통의 조건에 대해 생각해 보았다. 요컨대, 우정은 두 존재가 대등한 관계에서 만나는 것이기에 소통의 의미를 되새겨 보기에 좋은 제재라 하겠다.

영문 초록

This study is to find out the aspect of friendship theory in terms of communication in the late of Chosun. Firstly, it reveals social environment and condition causing active talks about friendship, viewing the lack of communication in reality. On this base, there are divided into three aspects in friendship theory. The first aspect is on internal communication with self. This attitude is to refuse external communication, to communicate only with self. The statement that I want to make friendship with myself contains the strong intention to keep ego, communicating only with self. The second aspect is on internal communication inside community. This case is about communication among members of one community having common purpose. Yeon Am group considered friends as family members, Nam Party accepted 『theory of social intercourse』, so a friend was considered as an another self. Their concern was not about the internal benefits of community, but about the better world. The third one is on communicating with strangers. The friendship among Dam Hyen and three noble men of Hang Joo became a brilliant communication model of creativity and sincerity in the intellectural history of Chosun dynasty. Through the process of CheonAeJiGee, the condition of real communication has deeply been considered. In short, friendship is meeting between two different existences in equal relationship, it is a good element to consider the meaning of real communication.
