영문 초록

Hong Daerong(1731-1783) is a pioneer of Korean Northern School of Thought who advocated genuine talent. In the year of 1764, Hong came to China and stayed in Peking for 3 months in the officer capacity of his uncle, Hong Yi, at the age of 35. During this time he made friends of Yan Cheng, Pan Tingjun and Lu Fei actively, and they did conversation by writing style for the contents of Confucian classics argumentation, nature, poems, painting, history, custom and science. They kept in touch by this way for 20 years even after he went back. There is a qualitative change on his China outlook and ideology by this travelling and his communication with scholars of Qing Dynasty. For the meantime, the discussion on academic problems also triggered rethinking on his existing views, and played an important and indispensable role in development of his genuine talent thought. In addition, he also focused on some information about western learning. By contacted with western missionaries, he formed an objective view on advanced technology, which made a firm foundation for proposal of Korean northern school. We can say that he formed a correct understanding of Qing Dynasty, objective academic attitude and active northern school awareness by this travelling, which can be considered as a milestone in his genuine talent thought forming process. Comply with the requirement of the times, represented by Hong Darong, the Korean Northern School proposed a social reform thought adapt to Korean reality, which became the mainstream ideology of Korean school of genuine talent.
