조선시대 문인의 문장 학습과 작문 교육

국문 초록

어떻게 하면 글을 잘 쓰고 좋은 글을 쓸까? 옛 선인들은 글을 쓰기 위해 특별히 작문 교재를 가지고 공부한 것 같지는 않다. 책을 많이 읽어 글자를 놓는 방법을 터득한 것으로 보인다. 흉내 내기가 글쓰기의 시초였던 것이다. 그러나 흉내 내기만으로는 제대로 된 글을 쓸 수 없다. 이에 습작을 하면 반드시 자신의 글에 대하여 질정하고 평을 받았다. 그렇다면 글짓기는 어떻게 해야 하는가? 본고는 이 문제에 중점을 두고 ‘글쓰기의 처음은 어떠하였는가?’ ‘어떻게 글을 지을 것인가?’ ‘문장의 전범을 통해 무엇을 배워야 하나?’ ‘어떤 책을 어떻게 읽어야 할 것인가?’로 나누어 옛날 문장 학습과 작문 교육은 어떠했는지 살펴보았다. 문장의 학습에 대한 구체적인 내용은 문헌상에 많이 나타나 있는데 작문 교육의 실상을 엿볼 수 있는 자료는 그다지 많지 않다. 이는 기초적인 작문은 한문을 배워가며 배운 지식 체계를 활용하여 글을 짓는데 활용하였기 때문으로 보인다. 조선 시대 문인들에게서 작문 교육에 대한 언급은 많지 않다. 이는 개별적으로 작문에 관심을 갖는 사람에게 어떻게 해야 한다는 것을 말해주었지 작문을 공을 들여 해야 할 것으로 생각하지 않았기 때문이다. 한편 조선시대 문인들은 작문을 위한 전범과 그 전범에서 배워야 할 것에 대하여 소상하게 제시하였으며 독서에 있어서도 많은 것을 읽으려 탐하는 것보다 하나의 책을 읽더라도 마음 씀과 뜻을 두고 글을 읽을 것을 강조하였음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

What can I do to write well and compose good writing? It is unlikely that the old ancestors studied with special composition textbooks specifically for writing. It seems that they read a lot of books and learned how to place letters. Imitation may have been the beginning of writing. However, it is not possible to write a proper article just by imitating something. Thus, when making etude writing, it must be criticized and reviewed for the writing. If so, how about writing? This article focuses on this issue and divided it into What was the beginning of writing? , How will you compose your writing? , What should I learn from a good example sentence? , and ‘What book should I read and how?’ to examine how old sentence learning and writing education were. The stylistic content of sentence learning frequently appears in the literature, but there are not many materials that can give a glimpse into the reality of writing education. This seems to be due to the fact that basic writing was used in writing by utilizing the knowledge system learned while learning Chinese. There are not many references to writing education by the literary men in the Joseon era. This was simply telling someone who was interested in writing what to do, because it was not thought that writing should be elaborated. On the other hand, the literati in the Joseon era presented a detailed suggestion of good example sentence for writing and what to learn from it, and when it comes to reading, it can be seen that rather than coveting to read many things, it was confirmed that it was emphasized to read the text with mind and intention even if you read a single book.
