한시 번역의 성과와 방향

국문 초록

본고는 한시 번역에 관한 새로운 이론이나 방법을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하지 않는다. 그동안 제안된 이론과 방법들이 한시 번역 현장에서 얼마나 성과를 거두고 있는지에 대해 이미 간행된 번역서를 놓고 검토함으로써 향후 한시 번역의 방향을 가늠하고자 한다. 본고는 중국 남송 朱熹(1130~1200)의 시를 번역하여 간행한 번역서를 분석의 대상으로 삼았다. 현재 출판계에는 주희의 시를 가려 뽑아 번역한 선집 번역서 3종과 그의 전체 시를 번역한 전집 번역서 2종이 간행되어 있다. 주희 시 번역서는 한시 번역의 성과와 방향을 모색하기 위한 분석 대상으로서 충분한 의의를 지녔다. 朱熹의 시는 성리학 집대성자의 사상을 이해하기 위한 학술적 가치뿐만 아니라 희로애락을 공감하며 정서를 순화시키는 예술적 가치를 아울러 지니고 있다. 조선시대 문인들의 한시 창작 배경에서 지속적인 영향을 미쳤다. 오늘날 주희 시 번역서의 출현은 일반 대중뿐만 아니라 한문학 전공자들의 필요에 부응한 것이었다. 주희 시 번역서에 한정하여 미시적 관점으로 한시 번역의 성과와 문제점을 분석해보았다. 그 결과 한시 번역 현장에서는 번역 방법론의 미비가 문제라기보다 이미 마련된 방법론을 얼마나 충분히 구현하느냐가 문제임을 파악하였다. 이에 앞으로 이루어질 한시 번역의 방향성은 번역에 대한 새로운 이론과 방법의 연구보다는 우선적으로 한시 독해에 정통한 인재를 어떻게 육성하느냐에 보다 집중하여 모색하는 것이 보다 효과적이라고 생각한다.

영문 초록

This study is not intended to explore new theories and methods for the translation of Sino-Korean poetry. This study attempts to examine what achievements the proposed theories and methods have made in the field of the translation of Sino-Korean poetry (漢詩). Through this, this study intends to measure the direction of the translation of Sino-Korean poetry going forward. This study analyzed those translation books which translated and published Zhu-Xi s (朱熹; 1130~1200) poems during the Southern Song dynasty period in China. Currently, there are three translation books of anthology, which are selected and translated from Zhu-Xi’s poems, and two translation books of the entire collection, which translated his entire poetry. The Zhu-Xi poem translation books are sufficiently meaningful as an analysis target to seek the outcome and direction of Sino-Korean poetry translation. Zhu-Xi s poems had academic value to understand the thoughts of philosopher Zhu-Xi. In addition, his poems have the artistic value of sympathizing with emotion and purifying emotions. Zhu-Xi s poems had a lasting influence on the creation of Sino-Korean poetry of the literary people of Joseon Dynasty as a source of thought. Today, the emergence of translations of Zhuzi’s poems has served the needs of researchers in the Chinese literature (漢文學) as well as the general public. This study analyzed the achievements and problems of the translation of Sino-Korean poetry from a microscopic perspective about the translation books of Zhu-Xi’s poems. As a result, there was no misinterpretation due to insufficient translation methodology. The problem was that the translation methodology already submitted was not sufficiently implemented. For the work of finding the direction of the upcoming Sino-Korean poetry translation that is to come in future, it is thought that it is more effective to focus on developing talents who are versed in reading Sino-Korean poetry rather than researching new theories and methods.
