국문 초록

교회사 공부에 있어서 중요한 전제는 ‘교회란 무엇인가’와 ‘역사란 무엇인가’ 라는 두 주제이다. 이를 인식하는 것에 따라 공부의 방법이 달라지기 마련이다. 그리고 교회사의 공부는 일반적으로 초대교회사로부터 시작된다. 이러한 근거에는 여러 이유들이 있지만, 교회의 역사를 서술하는 학자들의 신학에 따라 차이가 난다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 교회사 공부를 함에 있어서 중요한 신학적 첫걸음에 관한 논의를 종합적으로 전개하고자 한다. 가장 큰 오해 중에 하나가 유대교에서 기독교가 나왔다거나 로마 가톨릭에서 종교개혁을 통하여 프로테스탄트 즉 개신교가 시작되었다는 주장이다. 대표적으로 19-20세기의 유명한 교회사가인 하르낙은 교회사에서 바울의 역할을 언급하면서 유대교와의 단절과 예수로 말미암은 기독교를 주장한다. 하지만 종교개혁의 전통에서 볼 때, 교회는 오순절로부터 시작된 것이 아니라 창조와 함께 시작되었다. 또한 어떠한 어려움 속에서도 교회는 있어 왔고 또한 존재하며 그리고 마지막 날까지 지속될 것을 많은 신앙고백서들은 분명하게 고백한다. 그리고 그 근거는 바로 삼위 하나님의 역사하심이다. 이 사실에 대하여 조직신학자들과 역사신학자들 역시 성경을 근거로 교회의 보편성과 항존성을 분명하게 주장한다. 따라서 교회사를 공부함에 있어서 이러한 인식을 기초로 역사신학을 전개해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Two important themes in the study of church history are ‘what is the church’ and ‘what is history’. Depending on the recognition of this, the position of the scholars on church history differs. The study of church history usually be- gins with the early church. It differs according to the theology of scholars who describe the history of the church. Therefore, this study intends to develop a comprehensive discussion on the first important theological step in the study of church history. One of the biggest misconceptions is the assertion: Christianity emerged from Judaism, or Protestantism or Protestantism began through the Reformation from Roman Catholicism. Harnack, a famous church historian of the 19th and 20th centuries, emphasizes Paul s role in church history and advocates a break with Judaism and Christianity through Jesus. How- ever, in the Reformation tradition, the church did not begin with Pentecost, but with the creation. In addition, many confessions of faith clearly confess that the church exists and will continue to the last days in the face of any difficulties. And the basis for this is the work of the Triune God. And systematic theologians and historical theologians also clearly assert the universality and ever-present character of the church on the basis of the Bible. In studying church history, historical theology should be developed based on this recognition.
