국문 초록

이 연구는 8학년 과학의 ‘지구의 크기 측정 실험 활동’을 위한 전용 교구를 개발하여, 효율성을 알아보고자 하였다. 전용 교구는 지구의 크기 측정 실험활동을 저해하는 장소와 조작의 난해함을 해결하는 방안에 초점을 맞추어 실내용과 실외용 두 가지로 개발하였는데, 이 실험을 지도했던 경험이 있는 교사들에게 설문을 하여 두 차례의 검증과 수정을 통해 개발하였다. 개발한 교구의 효과를 검증하기 위해 강원도 태백 H 중학교 8학년 학생을 강의식 수업, 교과서 내 지구모형을 이용한 실험 수업, 개발한 교구를 이용한 실험 수업을 실시하였다. 세 가지 수업 형태의 효과를 비교하기 위해 관련 단원 성취도를 사전과 사후 그리고 추수검사를 통해 비교 분석하였고, 수업형태에 따라 학생들의 관련단원 개념변화 효과에 미치는 영향을 심층면담을 통해 정성적 분석을 하였다. 이 연구의 결과, 전용교구를 이용하여 실험을 한 학생들은 사후 검사에서는 다른 수업에 참여했던 학생들과 많은 차이가 없었으나, 추수검사 결과 개념의 지속에 긍정적인 영향을 받은 것으로 드러났다. 면담결과 학생들은 교구를 활용한 수업을 선호하였으며, 교구 사용이 편리한 개발 교구를 사용한 학생들이 실험 활동에 더 적극적으로 참여하고, 흥미 있어 했다. 결론적으로 지구의 크기 측정 실험에서 학생들의 실험 교구를 교사가 직접 고안하고자 하는 시도가 현장 과학수업에서 학생들의 학업성취도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study aims at developing the special teaching tools and measuring the students attainments of the related class and the continuance of the effect as time goes by after applying three types of class to the 8th graders, such as the class using the teaching tools for exclusive use, the class using the model of the earth, and the traditional passive class. The results of this study are as follows;First, the teaching tool for exclusive use was developed, with which we can understand easily the principle of measuring the earth s size and is very easy to operate through double inspections and modifications based on the survey of the teachers who had taught the unit in schools. They gave a positive evaluation that the tool will be helpful for the students and teachers to do the experiment activities. Second, the effectiveness and continuance of the class was studied according to the sorts of teaching tools applied to the experiment activities. The results showed that the students who had less attainments in the experiment activity group using the earth model took passive parts in the activities because they had troubles in doing experiment activities and operating the tools. On the other hand, the group of using the teaching tool for exclusive use was understanding the experiment process related to the Eratosthenes hypothesis though they were low level students.
