한국어 고유명의 아랍어 표기 사례 연구

국문 초록

전세계적인 한류의 확산과 문화콘텐츠 수출 증대 속에 한국 관련 정보가 국내외 각종 매체를 통해 아랍어로 번역되어 제공되고 있다. 제공되는 콘텐츠에는 다량의 한국어 고유명이 포함되어 있고, 매체마다 동일한 고유명을 다양하게 표기하여 아랍 수용자에게 혼란을 주고 한국의 이미지에 손상을 주고 있다. 이는 한국어 고유명의 아랍어 표기에 대한 통일된 기준이 마련되지 않았기 때문이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 관련 정보를 아랍어로 번역해서 제공하는 한국 공공기관 및 아랍어 뉴스 웹사이트를 중심으로 한국어 고유명 및 문화특정어의 아랍어 표기 사례를 수집하고 분석하여 그 현황과 문제점을 파악하며, 한국어 고유명의 아랍어 표기 기준 제안을 목적으로 한다. 분석 결과 아랍어와 한국어의 음운 체계 차이로 인해 각 음소의 표기가 대응되지 않는 사례가 다수 발견되었고, 한국어 자음과 모음의 발음을 기준으로 아랍어 표기 방안을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study attempts to develop a standard for the Arabic transcription of Korean proper names. Amid the growing popularity of the Korean Wave(hallyu) and the subsequent increase in Korean cultural product exports, various media outlets at home and abroad have translated and provided Korea-related information in Arabic. During this process, however, they often transcribe proper names from Korean to Arabic differently from each other mainly due to the lack of a common standard for converting Korean proper names into Arabic transcription. This not only confuses Arab audiences, but also negatively affects the image of Korea. In this regard, this study collected and examined actual Arabic transcriptions of Korean proper names and culture-specific words, focusing on the Arabic scripts provided by Korean public institutions and Arabic news websites. According to the analysis, there were many cases where the Arabic transcription did not correspond to Korean phonemes due to the different phonological systems of the two languages. Incorporating these findings, this study developed an Arabic transcription standard based on the pronunciations of Korean consonants and vowels.
